Signage Cock-Ups In Phuket

Maybe the start of a humourous thread - - up to you.

Have seen some great and mixed up signs here over the years, but one caught my eye recently.

Of all places, just outside the Outrigger Serenity Terraces Resort, on Viset Road, Rawai. Publicising their new beach lounge bar, they've gone and named it "88 Degrees East".

Now, the last time I checked (which was only a couple of minutes ago, as I was just confirming that I'd spotted an error!) Phuket lay 98 Degrees East. So, unless Outrigger have a resort somewhere in the Bay of Bengal and got the signs mixed up, I reckon this is the latest cock-up!!

Any more good ones out there/

There used to be a sign clearly visible from Sukhumvit Road near Soi 38. There was a business there called Pacific Overseas Trading. There logo was a stylised flower blossom on a sign with the letters P.O.T. (for Pacific Overseas Trading, I assume). Right below it wa a smaller sign in English that said, "Customers enter below".

There was a billboard, clearly visible as you were leaving Bangkok on the bus to Pattaya. It showed a man and a rather scantily clad Thai girl. The sign was all in Thai, except for two English words,"Good Sex?". I never did figure out what they were advertising.

From a hotel in Malaysia, where single men were not allowed to have unaccompanied women in their hotel rooms. The hotel placed this notice to make that known:

The hotel management must insist that single men will not entertain unaccompanied women in their hotel rooms. For those who do wish to entertain women, a special area has been set aside in the lobby for that purpose.

And finally, a job advertisement I saw many years ago in a Bangkok English language newspaper. A Japanese company was trying to hire a Japanese/Thai/English translator. Their advert read: Company wanting translated for Japanese to Thai-English and back again. Immediate opening.

A few years ago up near Nai Thon area were repeated signs on some fenced off land along the roadside stating "Notres passing". I used to ride past wondering what these 'Notres' were that would be passing before I eventually realised they were supposed to say "No trespassing".

Also, not a cock-up as such, but "Manita Massage" on Nanai always makes me laugh (as did "Patel Brothers Builders - You've had the cowboys, now try the Indians!" but that's getting even further away from the original thread).

Adding to my own thread..........

Also like the couple of signs still in glorious display in Phuket Town :

"FEBRUARY 2010 - NO MORE PLASTIC BAGS".

Whatever happened to that one, then? (New thread, please - don't hijack this one to discuss plastic bags!)

Two weeks ago in Villa Supermarket, some sausages at the meat counter were labeled "Country Sausages".

Unfortunately, they had missed out the O.

.....must have been German sausages then :)

Also, not a cock-up as such, but "Manita Massage" on Nanai always makes me laugh

When they first opened they had a big sign of "Fanny Massage" LOL.. Someone must have explained to them cos a couple of weeks later it was changed to Manita !!

Perhaps they are having trouble finding the place?

Also a laundry on Nanai called "Pornstar".

As English is not my mother tongue, I checked for "cock -up" in Webster's New World Dictionary. No have.

So I don't know, if the following is a Cock-up, but I think it is pretty funny.

There used to be a laundry in Kata, which advertised their service :

"Drop your pants here, for best results" !

Saw a funny one in Pattaya last year on LK metro.

Pork Shop and Mash only 190 Baht

Made me laugh anyway.

Another one that always brings a smile is "Opey De Place Hotel"

Should have called it "The all Opey De Place Hotel"

There was a sign at Big Buddha temple on Samui that read " Attention all Tribes. Not to wear skirt above knee " and at Lipa Noi a road sign to " Furry Pier "

once stayed in a hotel which had the house rules printed on cards in the rooms as follows: "All hotel guests must have a minimum of two (2) overnight guests per night."

not wishing any trouble with the management i did my best to comply...

:whistling:

A friend stayed at a resort where written on the back of the room's door among the rules of the house was:

'Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the chambermaid'.

As far as I'm concerned, THE most internationally understood and recognised word in the world is "Taxi".

Opposite the All Seasons Hotel in Nai Harn, the motorcycle and car drivers sit waiting for customers underneath a sign which reads, "TXAI"

I always get at least one chuckle out of every menu I see here. The one mis-identified menu item that comes to mind right now is Friend Fry.

There was a sign on Soi Banzaan for no parking of bikes. One side of the road had no parking on even days the other side of the road had no parking everyday.I don't know if they are still there.
