I am changing jobs soon and just wonder if a cancellation of the current non b is always necessary and if so, only at the actual immigration office where it was issued, or can we do it at border/airport when we leave to apply for the new one?

And if so, if the visa was issued at chiang mai for example, can it be cancelled at phuket or bangkok if the situation would require so, or can it be only cancelled at immigration where it was issued in the first place?

The answer depends on your ermission to stay. If you are on an extension of stay, it ends the day your job ends. If you are not on extensions of stay but on visa entries, your permisison to stay remains valid.

Visas are issued at Consulates outside Thailand so suspect you are asking about one year extensions of stay for work. They end the day work ends and require you visit the office that issued with letter from employer to cancel the extension of stay and if you want obtain a 7 day extension.

If both employers are in same area and agreable the second job could be added to work permit and then old job removed but that usually does not happen. Believe if you can obtain paperwork for new job extension of stay during the 7 day extension it can often be done without a trip out of country but if not you would have to visit a Consulate to obtain a new visa entry.

If you are on a 90 day visa entry or an extension of stay for marriage that above would not apply and you could continue your stay.

Also you can get a 7 day extension of stay when your extion to stay ends because of losing your job. If you can get a new work permit within those 7 days, no need to apply for a new non-B from abroad. But you would ned to qualify for the 1 year extension of stay with your new job.

thanks all for the reply's.

I am on extension of stay. Im aware of the procedures, just wonder wether the actual cqncellation is;

A) always necessary or can we wait untill we leave the country, in order to apply for the new one, and....

B) can it be cancelled at another immigration office other then where the initial extension of 1 year was done.

Thanks

The answer is that a lot of people just leave the country on the day they lose their job, which also cancels the extension of stay. However, there was a report that someone was asked at the border why he didn't get a re-entry permit and when he explained was told to go back to his immigration office to have the extension of stay canceled.

You will need to cancel your work permit also, with a letter from your employer and likewise one for immigration to cancel your extension of stay. The problem is that at the border they can't check when you lost your job and don't know if you are on overstay or not. That is probably why the person was send back to his immigration office.

Regarding which immigration office you should use, you have to use the immirgation office for the area where you are living/had your extension. But check with the immigration office you want to use, they might be willing if there is a reason to use them instead of the original office.
