Recent Cat Internet Problem

Featured Replies

CAT serves my Internet in No. Central Thailand (Uthai Thani, via Novatel Ovation MC760). It's been working very well until yesterday.

Yesterday for several hours, and again today, many sites are inaccesible (DNS errors?) Another CAT user in my area has the same problem. Is anyone else experiencing trouble?

Many sites continue to work, including all of Google's, thaivisa.com, nytimes.com, etc. But many many sites do not, for example

http://boards.straightdope.com (though it was working yesterday)

http://www.hindustantimes.com/

http://gobase.org/

From http://speedtest.net/ I get errors accessing many (but not all) destinations outside Thailand.

Help?

PS: Almost like "it" read my post, 2 of the 3 mentioned sites started working immediately upon that post. (All but gobase.) But still many sites do not work, eg.

http://www.genealogics.org/

And judging by last night, other sites may start failing again.

I'm on CAT in Map Ta Phut at the moment and can access those websites.

And I haven't noticed any problems in the past week.

I am using CAT CDMA , and an MC727 USB modem, its been running well for some time now until yesterday , now with some international web pages I just get ... Server not Found

Ive just spoke to some one at CAT , and told them my problem, their reply was , yes we know there's a problem and we are getting many calls from customers , they don't have a timer scale

about fixing the problem, or could give an exact description of what the '' fault '' was. Only to wait until its fixed :whistling:

TL :jap:

maybe ur sites are on the blocked list as is wikileaks now

Many sites yesterday and the day before were the victim of DNS-rebind attacks, from where exactly this originated I have no information. Usually it would overload and reboot the routers. Several sites I know of with the same symptoms were in widely different areas - Kalasin, Korat, Bangkok, MapTha Phut. In most cases trapping and redirecting all DNS queries at the router and diverting them to a known safe DNS server, immediately stopped the problem in its tracks. There is usually a virus involved, which cannot easily be eliminated, running on the affected PC's, set to prevent virus checkers from reporting anything.

I have the same problem from yesterday. With my CAT ADSL connection I cannot access many websites.

Today the situation look better, but daytime still I have awful pings to European servers (over 1000/1200 ms). I don't think the problems are related but just to remark as CAT, once the best connection, now is becoming slow, full of problems and, for my area, still no more than 2 Mbit.
