Hi Guys

I have bought 3 rai of land with a lake behind it and in keeping with the natural beauty, I would like to plant hedgerows (like you see in the UK) around the edges instead of the high walls that everyone else seems to use. Can anyone advise me if its possible to buy hedgerows or offer a suitable growing alternative that can be cut and shaped please.

Many thanks for your replies

Hi

I'm retiring to Thailand very shortly, with myThai wife, and would propose to do the same on our plot.

What I would llike to use is Bourgonvillea. It really is superb.

I believe it's readily available in Thailand.

If you've not come across it before, it is also called the "paper flower",with masses of coloured blooms.

It grows rapidly, as a vine, and has thorns, as an additional deterrent.

It grows very well here in the Arabian Gulf, where I am at present.

See Wikipedia article below.

Bougainvillea is pretty invasive, and requires regular and painful pruning.

Wrightia religiosa is a nice plant with fragrant flowers and easy to prune, not too tall either.

i use the fern leaf aralia as its quick and easy to grow, is uninterestingly attractive and fills in fast.

Thanks NT

I am familiar with that plant/flower although I never knew its thai name. I did grow 2 or 3 in a big pot but after 3 years they began to look like gnarly old trees. I have never seen then used as hedgerows but it certainly grows rapidly and I will keep it under consideration if nothing else comes up.

SBK's right about Bougainvillea. Its also difficult to get rid of the cuttings, left around the thorns will puncture a shoe or a tyre easily. They are pretty but a lot of work.
