Tv Recorder

Featured Replies

My Pioneer DVD Player/recorder (350GB HD) has died and not reparable. I use it to record sports on True Visions and play back later. I cannot find a substitute. Is there anything on the Thai market?

These machines seem to have dropped out of popularity. :bah:

You might consider the PVR offered by True, which is the satellite receiver and DVR all in one box,

mind you there were some negative comments in the forum about service on these boxes.

An alternative to look at is the Dreambox 600S PVR

It can have any disk capacity that you like.

I was looking for one too but as you'll read in this thread below, they disappeared from the shelves about a year ago in Thailand for no apparent reason. I gave up looking myself and went for PVR - the True Visions recording system. It's not faultless but besides a Dreambox, it's really your only option.

True there are fewer out there but they are there

My Philips died when the Redshirts blew up the power station

near Sukhumvit. So I bought a new one; Sony device.

Stock was low so I had to buy the big unit [250G vs 160G]

for 3-4KBaht more. Found it at Paragon. Emporium has some

too.

PM me if you'd like to buy my old Philips unit and get it fixed

Probably just needs a 2K power supply. It'll cost you

less than half what a new unit costs.

Just a word of caution about True's PVR. It needs the decoder card to play back and if one day you decide to discontinue your True subscription and have to give back the decoder card, you won't be able to watch the movies you have recorded.

I had a "wrong" decoder card in my PVR (the one for the receiver upstairs) and wasn't able to play back anymore. It took me and the call center girl quite some time to figure out what was the problem.

Also the PVR has a reputation to sometimes simply stop in the middle of a play-back and nothing can make it change it's mind, not even Truevisions.

My advice: Buy a Dreambox with a built-in harddisk.

But if you wish to record the new HD channels:Bad luck. You cannot. True's receiver cannot record anything and comes without a decoder card. So you cannot substitute it and put the decoder card in another receiver.

Surely that cannot be right?

An HD PVR that will not record HD???????????
