My laptop died so I took the hard drive out of it, and put it in an external drive so I can use it.

Now, can I just plug the USB into my new laptop and get files off it or is it gonna boot up the Windows on it? And if so, how do I get it to stop so I can just get data off it?

You can just plug it into an USB port on your new laptop and start copying files.

Autostart will most likely start reading all the files on your plugged in hard drive to figure out what action to take, just cancel it if you see it popping up.

Cheers, I had visions of Windows trying to start up or something so hesitated in doing anything with it. :)
