<deleted> !!!!!!!

I woke up this morning at 6:00 am and suprizingly the "SPEAKER TRUCKS" had started up and down the back sois in Sako0n City blarring what I thought was the normal Thai garbble (Vegetables for sale at 20 b a kilo, come to our grand opening) etc. I hate these trucks anyways because normally they travel at 0.06 KPH through traffic but anyhow, 30 minutes later our whole area behind the Big-C was covered with a strange smelling mist or fog. It was so thick I had to close my windows etc.

It didn't take me long to figure out that this strange fog had the exact same smell as the "RAID" I buy at Big-C for killing bugs. I will ask today about this but I'm 99.9 % sure thats what it is.

I have seen a lot of strange things in my 10 years in LOS butthis one really did "make me sick".

Maybe now I understand what the "speaker trucks" were saying. I'm thinking they could have been warning the residents about this but <deleted> !!!!!

I saw guys walking up and down the sub-soi's with big packs on their back spraying clouds of the crap.

I'm one of these guys that can speak Thai quite good but am not so good at understanding it especially here in Isaan where they speak Isaan (Lao) of course but either way 30 minutes notice and then kill all the bugs and poison all the folk ???????

Is this standard here in Isaan and is it happening in any6one elses town or village? I do understand they need to do some bug control especially for the Dengue Mosquitos but my god....

They're called foggers and the primary purpose in Thailand is eradication of mosquitoes (Dengue as mentioned). They went around our moo bahn in Chiang Mai just recently so not just Isaan. The insecticide is combined with diesel fuel in order to thermally disperse it and is the main smell you would have. There is a topic somewhere on foggers.

Fairly common in this part of Issan. They will make an annoucement on the big speakers and a short time later some guy w/ a fogger pack on his back comes by and sprays everybody's home. Happens about twice a year. Not sure what the guy is spraying but I am sure that paper dust mask the guy is wearing is not sufficent to protect him

Guess I'm luckier than most; we get written notification about a week ahead of time (in Thai of course) and no blaring speakers.

Happens a few times every year where I live and the mrs. always ask them to do a little extra around our buildings - she even tells them do it inside our main house. As Tywais said - main reason is to eradicate mosquitoes, but also helps to get rid of ticks. (good thing if you have dogs)

To me it's a positive event! :D

You should be happy to see the fogger boys.Dengue is rife at the moment. Surin has had more than 2,000 cases so far, this rainy season. including some deaths. We get no warning ,,apart from the noise of the machine. If they do their job properly, they will come into your house and fumigate the interior as well. Solution- just go outside for about 20 minutes.I am more than happy to "hear" them.Bastard of a job ,but.

In our small town in Buriram province we hear an announcement at least one day in advance regarding this insect spraying operation. If we know we have our pets and clothes line racks inside then we ask the staff person walk all around the outside of our home spraying whatever it is they spray in our garden and covered verandas. While it seems to control most flying insects it has not stopped the wasps. That it a whole different ballgame to burn out a wasp nest in Issan, but certainly possible via the PEA and local government working together for a night time removal with about 12 men and three utility trucks. I'm happy to tip both sets of workers for such tasks.

Yeah well, I'm definetly not UNHAPPY, I dont mind it at all but just never experienced this before. I guess my main concern or question is, is the spray harmful to you the same as a can or RAID or has technology been kind to us?

I did feel sick but only for a short time and this could have even been a placebo effect with me THINKING it was harmful.

I dont expect them to give warning in English as Sakon is not a farang friendly area so to speak and I speak a lot more then I understand so when I heard the speaker truck I could at least tell it was not the same garbble as usual and when the foggers started it became real clear. lol.

Now I know, next time I will simply close my windows when they announce it.

Thanx for the replies.
