Torn bedsheets: How do you salvage some use from them, after tearing?
Dear Folks, As some of you might know by now, bedsheets are overpriced in Thailand. Therefore, some of us often use them until ..... so unfortunately.... they tear....either due to an uncut toenail....or, even more unfortunately, due to untoward antics in bed. I have about 5 bedsheets with tears, all saved up. What is the best way to salvage these sheets, or, at least, put them to a better use. I hate to discard good cotton. Also, I do not want to try to use them as "rags" for mopping up spills. Because, this kind of cloth is just not designed for that. Additionally, I do not want to save them for Halloween, since we are already too old for that.... Once again I will say that I refuse to discard perfectly good bedsheets....just due to a few tears, here an there. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you. Regards, Gamma Note: As for new sheets for sleeping.... I will buy in China, where the quality is good and the price is right. I buy ONLY 100-percent cotton sheets. And, last time I tried to buy a mattress protector in Thailand.....it was an absolute disaster. Never again will I buy curtains, bedsheets, or anything 100-percent cotton in Thailand.... The price here is OUT OF SIGHT....... -

Thai police banned from collecting fees for red checkpoint boxes

An official notification was acknowledged by Phumithat Khositwanichpong, Deputy Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police, acting on behalf of the Provincial Police Commander. The directive, marked as the most urgent under number 0016.413/8182 and dated yesterday, November 27, addresses all provincial police commanders and the heads of all police stations. It reiterates the prohibition against police officers collecting fees for red checkpoint boxes, as previously outlined in a police directive from March 10, 2005 (document number 009.5/623). The NACC’s investigation revealed that police officers responsible for these checkpoint boxes within their jurisdiction were found to be collecting monthly fees. Such actions were deemed a severe disciplinary violation, with the officers exploiting their official positions for personal gain. The commission concluded that this misuse of authority constitutes serious misconduct, falling under corruption and abuse of their official duties, said Phumithat. “The act of collecting fees for red checkpoint boxes is a grave violation of both disciplinary and criminal codes, as it involves exploiting official power for personal benefit.” To ensure proper adherence to these regulations, the directive emphasises that all police stations must strictly inform their officers about this prohibition and enforce compliance rigorously. This notification serves as a reminder and guide for all officers involved. The red checkpoint boxes are a fixture in many areas, intended to facilitate police duties such as monitoring traffic and ensuring public safety. However, the misuse of these boxes for personal financial gain has led to scrutiny and the need for strict enforcement of ethical conduct among officers, Phumithat said. “Officers must adhere to ethical standards and refrain from actions that could undermine the integrity of our law enforcement institutions.” The move comes amidst broader efforts to crack down on corruption within the police force and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability. By reinforcing the prohibition on fee collection, the police leadership aims to deter any form of malpractice that could undermine the credibility of the force. Police officials have been tasked with ensuring that all personnel are fully informed of this directive and that compliance is monitored continuously.
