Is there something in the purchase agreement of a Toyota Yaris that says that having acquired one you must then drive like a frightened bunny?

Whenever I'm poodling along the road at around 40-50 Km I can guarantee that somewhere round the next bend there will be a Silver Yaris going at the speed of a trainee hearse driver. Yarisman or woman will be peering through the steering wheel oblivious of their surroundings and living in hope of finding a motorbike/sidecar noodles salesman to follow in order to obtain the correct speed.

It gets worse if there is a corner or small bend to attend to, as Yaris man has to come to a virtual stop to prise the car round whilst braking erratically.

I am mystified as all Silver Yaris drivers seem to be cloned...they cannot drive! Or perhaps they didn't realise that the roads of Samui are still not quite ready for the little silver snails suspension.

Rant over.

Give me Yaris drivers against Fortuner drivers any day. Me I'm all in favour of anybody that drives slowly around the island. There is no reason to drive quickly here. Simply leave 10 minutes earlier and you can crawl round the island safely and arrive on time. It ain't rocket science and it saves the environment and lives!

Many foreigners have a lot of business related appointments every day on this island. So do local bus/jeep/car drivers picking up tourists at confirmed times from one hotel to the next for tours and to the airport and ferries. More speeding are the drivers with the delivering vehicles for supermarkets and local markets, pick ups with seafood boxes in the back and the freezers.

Well you don't see it in the uk , maybe these people should apply ' time managemnet ' , there is no excuse for speeding and endangering the lives of others , anyway isn't it thai custom to always be late for meetings and appointments ? ;)

How about the cement and other trucks that get paid per trip and not per day....................

Those are amongst the ones that will overtake just before a curve.

Dunc you make a good point. But you seem to be intimating that the average Fortuna driver is a bit lacking on the grey matter against

a Yaris driver.

However, the average FTuna driver on Samui seems to be an aggressive Pink 40+ no-neck Farang .. and very dangerous.

Should be treated with the same caution as Yarisman.

I still stand by my post that Yarisman in my opinion a bloody danger to all who drive here. Nothing to do with speed.

..didn't you know that all learner driver's here start off in such a vehicle..this is where they hone their driving skills whilst texting/chatting, looking/reaching about in the cabin for some item; trying to peer around/over a small dog that's on their lap with its body out of the open window obstructing the rear view mirror. They then graduate to larger vehicles, you see them everywhere with bad matching resprayed right front guards and doors. I laugh at the audacity of the Mercedes driver's..the wealthy middle-aged woman who thinks she owns the road and the yellow line where she aligns her projectile..expecting all and sundry to yield right of way to her..I've seen them put on their hazard lights and just charge on through an intersection, controlled or not..Wow, you really have to be alert here, or it's Game Over. But really, jokes apart, they have great difficulty in concentrating properly on a single task, let alone attempting two!

Totally agree. Being trapped behind a Samui housewife dawdling along at 30kph, her brake lights continually flashing even on flat sections of road as she tries to control her automatic and when turning a corner, the little hands turn the steering wheel in small jerky segments instead of one smooth movement. I plan to ban woman from driving on this island when I become Mayor, but need a Minister for Transport !

What about song thaew and taxi drivers?

Taxi drivers are the worst, as they cruise slowly around looking for a fare or a place to sleep.

They often don't bother to move over to let following vehicles to pass, they speed up, slow down or even stop with no signal.
