Nationwide Crackdown On Night Venues

crappy electric wiring, etc

this I saw in Nepal ; in Thaïland I find wirings aren't that bad; the "improvements " that are mandatory in the western world mostly are done in order to improve the electricians ' standard of living.

I'd never give personal info on the political sites I go to in France ! just posting I find adventurous enough.

>Crackdown on night venues

1. A "witch-hunting" for something REAALY SOOO IMPOOOOORTANT to this country, to the safety of locals and to the internal improvements progress, so-called "reconciliation"

2. Another nail in the tourism's coffin. Sad but true. Hotels are empty (emptiest I ever see for decades), and what we're doing now? Cancelling one more tourist's service, raising thai baht, allow rallies under SOE - and expecting the INCREASE of the arrivals. High-class arrivals, yeah. A dumbest dumberers! A HUB of idiots!!!

3. They got to find ANOTHER job to those who will be fired from those bars - just to let them survive. Will they care those who lost their jobs? We all know the answer.

4. The bombs are still exploding on the streets. Daily! Yeah, it is 2nd-priority task to fix it comparing to the night venues.

Im really tired of all of these idioticities......

If they're talking about the hastily thrown up tarts bars along the lines of those infesting the once peaceful soi leading down to Chalong Bay, GOOD. And they can take all their rubbish 'quality' tourists with them.

As to their finding alternative employment to that of pole grinding to 'boom boom boom I want you in my room' accompanied by shrieking 'heloooo welcome', can't be too difficult can it? How about getting a job? I've a great deal of respect for those on check out counters, waiting staff/cooks and trash collectors to name but a few 'openings' for the sadly inadequately educated.

Some parts of this country are a downright embarrassment.

@Beetlejuice Remember, Thailand used to be famous for it`s bars, nightlife and anything goes approach to adult entertainments. Thailand was renowned as the adult playground and fun capital of the world.""

where do you come from, Qatar?

saying I met my son's mother in Thaïland has been a social embarrassment for more than 15 years now, because of people like you. I was nearly told in the face things amounting to " she must be so happy escaping from her squalid brothel thanks to your good heart"with resulting answer I let you imagine. (met her at a consulate where she processed visas and dealt with higher than Hi So; said "why did you take me to this trash bin " upon arriving inFrance).

Really? I hope you get over it someday. Many nice bar girls out there, many married to friends + hey they rock. If anything I am embarrassed about western "morals" and judgementalness. My better half also doesn't like to be "confused" with a bar girl but to me, if anybody thinks she is/was, I really don't care.

For the western take on it read Belle de Jour's book Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl. This is unique because Belle is a prostitute (a real one, not a bar girl), a brilliant writer, and a PHD scientist all at once. True story too.

Thailand seems bent on destroying it`s tourist industry. No it hasn't, the Western recession has. Remember, Thailand used to be famous for it`s bars, nightlife and anything goes approach to adult entertainments. Thailand was renowned as the adult playground aka World's Biggest Brothel and fun capital of the world. Just as Las Vagas is for it`s gambling clubs. Imagine what would happen if they closed all the casinos in Vagas, bye bye tourists. Chiang Mai is a typical example of the damage done to businesses by the policies of the prim and proper merchants of light and goodness.

The project of making Thailand more desirable to what they call decent folk hasn't worked. The plan has ended up in the scrap yard along with a big pile of joke elite cards. Closing down or restricting the operations of the bars and nightlife entertainments has created a huge knock on affect with other businesses, especially to restaurants and hotels. The kind frequented entirely by sex tourists. If this trend continues, the result will be that Thailand will lose the trade and income created by these services which will be to the benefit of countries like India, NEVER the Indians are the most, if not the most 'puritanical country on Earth (cue some poster pointing up a brothel he once frequented in Calcutta) Cambodia and the Philippines that can (do) accommodate the type of tourists who are willing to travel half way round the world for the bar and night entertainment scene. And they're very welcome to them!

Jakrapob spoke his mind and lo and behold his parents house is no more.

I doubt he would be the only one to think opinions are fine if some people don't know too much about your real life.

I may have missed something, but till now I haven't read anything about a possible cause of why the house burned down. Even without help these things happen, lots of wood, crappy electric wiring, etc.

If there's more info on this, please post here. Thanks.

My point is that; his instant thought would likely have been similar...

They can't get at him, and his mouth may have put his family in danger.

No it's isn't proved, but it isn't disproved, as far as I have seen.

Coincidence maybe, but maybe not.

I would venture that India is less puritanical than say Saudi Arabia....

There are many people both Thai and foreign with fairly normal lives with normal everyday jobs. You expect these very average citizens to forego a little law enforcement just so tourists can have a jolly good time 24hours a day, 7 days a week? For your sake, I hope you don't go home tonight to find an illegal night spot has opened next door with loud boom booom music till 5am.

What sort of government would bend over backwards to accomodate tourists, no matter how important they think they are, at the expense of their own people's rights to peaceful enjoyment and maybe even a desire to diversify away from tourism towards a more balanced economy?

As for "another nail bla bla..." didn't I just read tourism numbers have increased depsite the political problems this year? Perhaps there are very few tourists who actually want to party 24/7 without any restrictions whatsoever.

Thailand already has enough problems with consistent law enforcement as it is, and does not need such "tourist is KING" mentality to muddy waters. Residents needs should trump the tourists wants anytime.

If it weren't a charade I could agree.

Does anyone remember the time frame between the " we need to shut down the late night operators" and the " we need to not allow the wearing of short skirts on Uni girls"? This is cyclical nonsnese that is spewed on a regular basis but has nothing behind it except for some blowhards wanting to get their names in the press.

The government should not dictate the opening and closing times of venues.

If an establishment is soundproof etc they can be open 24/7 for all I care.

this sound proofing never existed. You always hear boom boom and can't sleep even with ear plugs.

patrons stay by the door for fresh air and fill the air with their smoke and talk loudly and are full of themselves.

anyway, who needs drunk foreigners puking all night long, singing obscene songs at any time, slamming car doors, or with bus waiting for them with air con on all night so they are fresh when theyget out ? i've known all this here, in France ; I couldn' shoot them quiet . If I were Thaï, i'd sure shoot noisy farangs in my soï or at least have mangy dogs especially trained for them .

Only mafia can want to live at night all night long ( caveat a few necessary night workers ).Blast all noisy people . I got Tinnitus, can't stand noise, there's noise everywhere .

It does all seem like a circle jerk. The guy ask why is this bar open without license when he knows exactly why it is open.

...and nobody questioning this, cause it's about face, yep, face in this country means even accepting the obvious redicoulous, but with this kind of acting, they made it way up the stairway to (thai) heaven!

what was the Joints name "Santika", the one that burned down at new years eve with scores dead... nobody "knew" that is was illegal...any heads taken on this one yet?

You are saying you didn't notice the club before you moved in?

%%

it was not only the clubs, there are big ones all along the boulevard , like elysee-montmartre, boule noire then moulin rouge ; trouble was more with the coaches waiting for patrons with air con on and engine on ; all night long . And crowds very noisy when stepping up and down coach, feeling like they're a crowd so nobody will bother them and they pay; don't even let you walk on the pavement, look at you like possible mugger .No respect at all .

very complicated concourse of circumstances ; I've owned a studio in this district for a long time . I was never supposed to live there permanently , but it so happened i got to stay for three years; meanwhile the situation of the tourism industry had degenerated and completely rotten the district(with growth of european 2 -days Paris trips, like from Roumania with stinking jalopies of junk coaches unfit for human use) ; so I joined an organization of neighbours to fight noise & pollution (hundreds of coaches24/24) and realized we were up against big interests; hotels were not the last, blatantly demanding the right to pollute us to death(-owners don't live there of course ) ; I got threatened personnally byemployees of an illegally situated venue who had been tipped I planned their moving farther. ; finally we made a deal with local politicians for elections and won , coaches went somewhere else and the trafic was re designed to allow people breathe and place was re furbished and re decorated and got a pedestrian & cycle passage ; you can see it around Pigalle by the Anvers metro station for instance ; I am very proud of the result ; we had to have meetings with lots of officials at high level for two years; it was like a job it tokk so much of our time . I got the satisfaction that a few meters of a small road were suppressed according to my suggestion; not everybody can say he erased a street in Paris !!

I now live in a very touristy place on the coast ; everywhere coaches are requested to switch off engines ; big signs ask tourists to be quiet near hotels and they are.

the trouble is in the old part of town, where I'm not, I would have loved to but bars are a total nuisance that drive decent people away ; all flats are owned by the rich as pied a terre , they come for fun and don't mind the noise; place is seriously dangerous, attracts muggers. I never wanted to live in big city ; my ex wanted ; and now I'm stuck .
