Multiple Monitors

Hi. I am not a super computer geek. I can do the basics. I would like to know how to have several monitors all showing whats on my laptop screen.

You can get a splitter to display the same image to multiple screens. It will also depend on what kind of video out do you have on your laptop.

Almost every laptop will allow you to connect a monitor in addition to the display of the laptop.

To have more, you need additional graphics adapters. Difficult to do on laptops. However, I've seen USB graphic adapters (graphic adapters that plug into USB ports). That would give you this capability.

With just a standard monitor plugged into your laptop, you can display either the same thing on both screens or have one program displaying on your laptop and another on your monitor, using the settings tab of the windows display properties facility (right click properties on your desktop). You can "swish" the displays from one screen to the other.

Also, be sure to check, not all laptops allow for simultaneous dispays to work at once. Some older graphics cards will make you choose between the screen or the monitor.

A very roundabout way would be to use the video out on your laptop, if so equipped, to a video in on a desktop pc. From there you have more options for graphic cards and could install one that can display on multiple monitors. Depending on your needs, you can use a new Radeon HD to display upto 6 monitor simultaneously. This is the setup I use, an ATI Radeon HD 5750.
