My friend has two options for long term visa. ED visa is out after he lost 30,000 baht at CMU last week.

He has been married to Thai lady 3 years. He had a non-imm O visa for marriage, it had hit almost 15 months when he went to CMU and figured it was easier to go with the ED visa, which it should have been without all the visa runs, if LICMU hadn't.....well, you know. He was assured the ED was coming and not to worry about the overstay and, well....you know. So it expired, he came back from Laos with the initial 90 day ED visa. He has now decided he wants to go back to the marriage visa.

He has a new passport with the initial 90 day ED visa- the one with the original marriage visa stamp had expired.

He does not want to travel to America, too far. Anyone have reliable up-to-date info on the ease of obtaining a marriage visa in Japan or Viet Nam? He has business interests in Japan.

Thanks in advance.

There is no such visa. As you do not mention extension of stay for marriage will assume he can not meet the 400k/40k requirements for that? You also mention 15 months which would indicate use of a multi entry non immigrant O visa. Currently the best source for that is KL and would require both marriage certificate/copy of wife ID card and proof of 100k in bank account. Most Consulates will only issue single entry but there are exceptions but expect Japan would not be one of them, and don't recall any report of obtaining in Vietnam.

I'm not understanding what you are referring to when you say "no such visa"?

I am looking at his old passport now. The stamp is from a consulate in the States. "Non-Immigrant Visa" at the top, below it says "Category "O"" and "Good for multiple entries".

he of course has copies of the I.D. Card, M. certificate and house book.

This is what he wishes to obtain again. KL would be fine, but don't you have to leave every 90 days? So does KL issue Multiple Entry?

He has substantial funds in more than one bank. No problem there.

Any suggestions how to reliably learn facts about Japan?

Thanks again.
