Hi there,

I have a quick question about the resetting of 90 days reporting thing. Would appreciate your quick answer.

Background info:

I have a 1 yr visa, expires Aug 2011.

my first 90 day reporting is due on 18th of this month (Oct)

Leaving for Vietnam on 7th and return to BKK on 8th October.

I will obtain re entry permit tomorrow at Chang watttana.

Now, my question:

I understand when I re enter on 8th, my 90 day reporting is reset, and the next one will be due on 8/Jan/2011.

Is this right?

But how do they (immigration at Changwat) know I left and returned, and the clock is restarted?

My only proof is the stamp at the airport. but this may be the proof of my entry, but how does this connect to my 90 day reporting status?

I will not get the slip stating my next reporting date at the airport, will I?

Come Jan 2011, I go for a 90 day report, then they may turn round to say "Dear Mr bkkjoe, you have not reported for nearly 180 days. Here is the fine!!!"

Or do I just have to trust the "system"?

Here in Thailand I have learnt you cannot take things for granted.

Anything can go wrong and cost you lots of money despite it's not your fault.

Thank you.

Firstly...Aug 2011 expiry..Aug 2010 issue You 90 day is in Nov on the day of Visa Issue, if you got the visa in thailand. If not it will be 90 from the arrival date. You 90 day indicates you have notoverstayed and that you is at Immi check out! But as tyou said you go to Nam ...Visa Run! You be OK untill Jan.. How do they know.. Again, check out at Immi and they look for you last stamp in.. There are a number of theories about as to 90 reports... Make them ! I a few cases the 90 clok is reset but done chance variences.

within 7 of 90. Get the butt to Immi!

Remember: The stray that broker the camels back can be a short hair in Thailand. I know a guy that was 27 over and because he had a few problems that were previously resolved he still got the boot..And no come back

SanukMahk,your info is completely incorrect!

To OP: the 90 days counter does reset on the day you re-enter Thailand. You start counting 90 days from your entry on 08.10.10

No need to report on 18.10.10

They will see your entry stamp in your PP and will go by that.

1. You have a one year extension from Immigration which you seem to have applied for in July making your first 90 day report due in October.

2. As you will leave before the due date there is no need to make that report.

3. Return will be day one of 90 day reporting period so count from there to get reporting date.

4. You always enter last entry date and arrival card number on the TM.47 used for 90 day reporting so is obvious. They can confirm with passport stamp and departure card in your passport.

I ve got a slip about my 90 day reporting from Immi at Changwat which says 18 Oct. (so no argument on that one)

In fact it is NOT a "visa run" to Vietnam as such, but effectively the same things, I suppose.

Now as it stands, Immi at Changwat is expecting me to turn up by 18/10.

But they will not know I left (and returned), do they? So their clock is still ticking, and the system will flag that I did not report by 18th.

Or does the "system" update my status on entry and expect me to report by the next reporting date? (but what is the exact date?)

there are so many unknowns here.

Maybe I just take a "my pen rai" approach, I suppose.

There is no flag for not reporting and if they used a computer it would clearly show why you did not report.

But one thing you do need is a re-entry permit to keep a one year extension of stay alive. You use that for your return visa number and get the same permitted to stay date you have now. Don't forget this permit - will cost 1,000 baht.

You have forgotten one important thing - When you depart Thailand you hand in your departure card, when you return to Thailand you hand in the arrival card. Of course CW will not know that you have arrived, but when you report on the day 90 days after you arrival (counting arrival date as 1), part of the documentation to present is your arrival card/departure card, which is stamped by Immigration, then they will see when you should report and process it as per normal.

Thanks guys for your comments/suggestions.

I think now people are saying that there is no computer/automated system that tracks your 90 day reporting status.

They do not know your reporting status until you show them your passport.

Because there is no apparent link between your entry date and the 90 day start and end dates, there is no way but your reporting obligation can only start from your last entry date. Make sense?!

Cheers
