Is Central Festival Good For Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

There were cinemas in RGP and the original Central Festival, a couple of bowling alleys around Pattaya (one still exists), even before the one at The Avenue.

I guess you're a newcomer to Pattaya or don't get out much.

You're living in the past. I get out enough to know that the RGP cinemas disappeared years ago even before the new mall opened. How could you possibly compare 2 old cinema with the world class complex at Central? The main purpose of a large, modern shopping mall is save people from having to get out too much. Everything in one place.:D Who wants to run around all the pretend malls in the tropical heat (and traffic) to find stuff.

If I can't find something I know who to contact.

I think that this is a good point. Central has the size , structure and organisation to literally have everything under one roof.

i have to admit that I have been converted to being a fan, after initially thinking it to be a white elephant. No one is referencing the real white elephant - The Avenue. An appalling place in my view.

But if you only need ONE thing, from ONE particular shop why go to Central when it's cheaper and nearer to go to the nearest place.

Like I said, all things available elsewhere.

Edit: there's a Samsonite shop in Outlet Mall if you need luggage.

Where did I say I wanted Samsonite luggage?

...and you can stick Outlet Mall. That's one of the worst shopping centres of all and judging by the lack of customers, I'm not the only one with that opinion.

sliced cheese? how gauche! you sound like you might eat frozen pizza too!

I was sceptical when it was been built and many stores/floors hold no interest for me personally. I readily acceptthat some tourists will see mall shopping as part of their holiday experience.

The food court is OK and TOPS is interesting but expensive. In a similar way to Villa Market it panders to Westerners who are content to pay inflated prices for imported foods.

I agree about the kitchen shop, it is excellent, although I was disappointed not to find a cheese slicer.

The cinema and restaurant floors are also excellent.

Is it just me or is the parking a complete dog's dinner. Directions are unclear, and parking a motorcy is a bitch.

Your life must be so incomplete without a cheese slicer.

Where I come from they call it a knife, but you can buy sliced cheese these days.

People who eat real cheese have cheese slicers. You should travel more or learn a thing or two about cheese.

My life was incomplete without a cheese slicer because I needed a cheese slicer.

Not a difficult decision for me to make to go out and try and buy one.

Should you wish to broaden your horizons and try one, they can be found in the kitchen shop on Second Road not far from the Boat Bakery.

i was there saturday night and the place was absolutely jumping. in fact, my wife and i looked at each other as we were just standing around looking down from the 5th floor and the you could feel the building sway.

anyway, this is a reminder for every one who said "shops will be closing left and right and no one will bother going here as Thai people don't eat bread". oh wait, that was McDonald's. anyway, you get my drift...

I was in there the other week ( I like the place ) but I was alarmed at how much the floor on one of the crossover points from one side to the other of the building was dancing up and down......

and this was low season foot traffic....is the place going to fall down...before all the Civil engineers flame me .....remember Chaz De Gaulle airport a few years ago....a Skating rink somewhere else in Europe where the roof caved in coz of snow....and loads of places in China have collapsed....

We're all doomed..........

Oh no not this again! Wasn't it supposed to collapse a couple years ago...something about buckling or bracing of the steel girders in the parking area  Maybe the additional weight of the hotel on top is making it buckle anew <_<

Bought a good quality suitcase in there from a reputable manufacturer with guarantee.

The local Thai place that has been there long befoer the new Central, exactly where I was going to suggest, along with the specialist kitchen shop next to Foodland, Index and upstairs at Friendship.

Zara in Fly Now, along with Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and a whole bunch of other top brands.

Adidas (and Nike) were on Second Road but are now in Outlet Mall along with Elle, AIIZ, Triumph, Burberry, Clarks, Nautica (who used to be in RGP) and a whole bunch of others (the official Liverpool outlet used to be there toobut you probably don't remember that far back)

French Connection was on first floor of RGP, AIIZ are still there I think, Timberland were there too on the ground floor (might still be?)

The original Numchai is still in Nahklua at the traffic lights junction. There's a massive new one on Sukhumvit just by Siam Country Club Road.

There were cinemas in RGP and the original Central Festival, a couple of bowling alleys around Pattaya (one still exists), even before the one at The Avenue.

I guess you're a newcomer to Pattaya or don't get out much.

zara in fly now. hahaha

there was a seconds shop in royal garden on the first floor that sold french connection, and lasted about 2 months. around 5 years ago.

clarks, nautica, timberland and triumph. liverpool outlet, calvin klein??? really high end, class labels them mate laugh.gif

Try the <deleted> in Fly Now.

Do you really think Top Man (Burton's) is high class?, agree a Liverpool kit isn't class but I thought with a nick like Kopite you might know that already.

Unfortunately. your last 2 suggestions drew a blank.

Sorry - 2 blanks.

...then add all the other dangerous activities you partake of:

Don't swim - people drown and get hit by jetskis

Don't drive - cars crash

Don't fly - aircraft crash.....

...and finally, the most deadly activity of all

Living - all people die:D :D :D

top man is utter <deleted>, yet it is one of the uk's leading high street shops for menswear, same as dorothy perkins for women. both were never available in pattaya until central opened.

any man who wears a footie top is a <deleted> imho. nice try though biggrin.gif

They collapsed becuase they were built using high alumina cement in the concrete mix. Something which nobody does these days.

No no no. Central is horrible for Pattaya. It was conceived when somebody thought all this money was coming in , Russians were buying everything etc. Place has nothing to do with Thailand. Thais can't go there. International shoppers can go to Bangkok. Had plenty of Carre 4, Tesco Lotus etc. Movie theater is more expensive.

Pattaya was fine with Big C. Movie theater was decent price. Royal Garden gave you a choice. Then Avenue came along, Then Central came along. Ridiculous. No character to the town at all now. Soi 7 and Soi 8 were nice. Now all getting filled in, hotel after hotel. So different since 2004. Really don't like it at all. Looks less and less like Thailand every time I go. Still like it, but, decreasing .

Perhaps if you used to visit here 30 years ago you'd miss the fishing boats.

As a visitor you have a different slant on things than expats who live here all year long.

You wanna know why I like Pattaya? Because it's is not like the rest of Thailand. It's a unique place which offers a lot of comforts for expats. Each to their own.

Having said that, how can you say that a new shopping mall "has nothing to do with Thailand". There are large shopping malls all over Thailand. Time doesn't stand still. Perhaps you've noticed all the brand new cars and trucks which clogs the roads here. Even the Thais would not agree with you as they welcome modern development and technology.

Get used to it, Beach road is going to end up looking like the beachfronts in the Spanish Costas / Mallorca
