Iranian President Ahmadinejad thanks Pope for condemning desecration of the Quran

2010-10-07 23:54:35 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday thanked Pope Benedict XVI for condemning the desecration of the Quran in the United States last month, the state-run Fars news agency reported.

"I offer my thanks to Your Excellency for your condemnation of an unwise move by a Florida church in the US to desecrate the Holy Quran which saddened millions of Muslims across the world," expressed Ahmadinejad in a letter sent to the Pope.

The Iranian leader called for a closer cooperation among religions to stop the moral degradation of societies. He also condemned the disregard of people towards religion and the man's growing tendency to material life.

"The disregard of man for the teachings of divine religions has been on the rise and paved the way for the decline of human society. Therefore, close cooperation and interaction among divine religions to halt such destructive moves is an absolute necessity," said Ahmadinejad.

According to Iran's president, Iran is willing to further cooperate with the Vatican in order to stop acts of sacrilege, the spread of Theophobias like Islamophobia and the destabilization of families.

"Followers of divine religions have to lead the way to establishing justice, uprooting oppression and overcoming discriminatory practices. The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to help create a change in the current world order."

Last month, a group of U.S. citizens burned some copies of the Quran and posted videos on the Internet. The sacrilege took place in New York City near Ground Zero. In addition, a group of conservative Christians tore the pages of the Holy Book outside the White House.

Terry Jones, a pastor at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, planned to mark the "9.11" attack by burning copies of the Quran in his church, but he later canceled the plan in the face of condemnation and protests around the world.

According to Iran, the act shocked the civilized world and hurt the sentiments of over 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide and billions of other believers.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to help create a change in the current world order.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Why ???

Many executions of his own people for political purposes. Imagine what he would do to the world at large if we let him. He is a serious threat to world peace, and in Iranian politics, he is rather moderate. They will soon get nukes, most of the civilized world doesn't trust them with nukes, and with very good reason. Islam as a religion is NOT the same thing as Islam perverted by Iran and other horrific Islamic state regimes.

That said, of course it is insane to be burning Qurans or any book for that matter. Especially Quarans given how touchy Muslims are on such things.

Totally wrong. You are very misinformed. This is NOT only about Israel, it is about the entire Middle east and the greater world.

rubbish... don't fall the western propaganda. Iran would never be so stupid to strike any nation first.. would be suicidal..

no.. the first strike would and probably will come from the state of Israel, following more dire propaganda & false flag crap (Gulf of Tonkin anyone?) aimed at creating even further the new 'boogey man'

Major countries in the Middle East are also concerned so you are completely off base that this is only a western concern. Israel would never make a first nuclear strike but they may indeed bomb Iran with regular weapons within the next few years. It would better if the US with the help of western Europe do that though, if it comes to that, and it might indeed.

Just calling a post moronic isn't a discussion. If that is all you've got to say, why post AT ALL?

Let us say it. Barring the unforeseen, there will be a major Middle East war in the next two years.

In the thinking of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Iran simply appears more dangerous than Israel. Their fear is that a nuclear-armed Iran will upend the regional balance of power and endanger their regimes. From the viewpoint of the rulers, it is a rational fear.

The trigger points of course will probably be related to the current Israeli-Palestine talks failing as they almost definitely will. Then when Israel sees that global pressure on Iran is not working to stop the Iranian nuclear program, Israel will attack. They will want cooperation with the US on that, but will do it no matter what. This is a VERY SHORT time line, two to three years max, quite possibly much less time.

If anyone kills or threatens another person because they burnt the Bible, the Quran or a spiderman comic then they all need to be taken out of the gene-pool as they are the real threat to the world.
