News_Editor
Russia to supply 35 tanks to Venezuela 2010-10-16 05:02:06 GMT+7 (ICT) MOSCOW, RUSSIA (BNO NEWS) -- Russia on Friday announced that it will supply 35 more tanks to Venezuela, on the same day it announced to help the South African country build a nuclear power plant. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed on the tank shipment at a meeting in Moscow with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez who said that the tanks deal will improve cooperation between both countries. Venezuela is considered as a reliable partner and a close friend to Russia. Since 2005, the South American country has bought more than $4 million worth in weapons that included Russian warplanes, helicopters and Kalashnikov assault rifles. In addition, Russia will aid Chavez's government in constructing a plant to manufacture construction materials in order to support the government plans for creating homes for its less fortunate citizens. Presently, Venezuela is building a facility to manufacture Kalashnikov assault rifles itself. Also on Friday, Russia and Venezuela signed an agreement involving the construction of a nuclear power plant in the South American country. Earlier this year, Chavez stressed that its nuclear-related projects were for peaceful purposes. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2010-10-
