I'm interested in this private medical insurance policy, but their English-language website only seems to offer a Thai language for online applications.

Does anyone know if they have local sgents similar to AIA, who will visit at home and provide the hard sell? (In spoken Thai is ok - it's the written Thai that makes my head hurt)

Thanks

Simon,

you may want to go to your local Siam Commercial Bank. I recently got accident insurance for the wife & daughter which covers clinic visits 100% and was 1200 Baht/year....Kasikorn Bank also has a similar and extended policy as does LMG.

I originally signed up with AIA but was notified that they don't insure expats anymore.....

The original post was for medical insurance not PA (accident) insurance which is quite different - note PA insurance is not expensive as all it covers are 'accidents' ...................

AIA : This is a Life insurance company who "add on" a medical rider.

If you go to the TVInsurance website as listed above you will be informed that as a group you will receive discounted rates... You are then informed To get a quote on-line, please go here. However, if you do go 'here' you do not get an on line quote what you get is a form to submit and provide information about your current coverage and then they will get back to you ...

On the ThaiHealth links I suppled above they list premiums directly ... So, if you want to inform TVInsurance that -- until you receive more policy info which is readily available on the insurers' own websites -- what is your current coverage is none of their affair, you are SOL.

The reason for asking what cover you have now is to be able to provide a competitive quote, there may be other companies other than Thai health that suit better, which is why a broker is usefull, depending on age, pre existing conditions, sex and other factors the broker can find the policy that best fits you, the more information you can provide, the quicker and better the fit of the quote will be.

There is a standard group policy listed here http://insurance.thaivisa.com/medical-package/medical-program.html

There is also another policy for people who want higher coverage here http://insurance.thaivisa.com/medical-package/policy-benefits-5m-baht.html

There are also many other companies other than these two listed, you can chase around all of them and get quotes or use a broker who is familiar with what insurance companies will and wont cover, how good their claims departments are, rates vs benefits, family vs single, the hospitals they will authorise direct payment in your area and so on, finding all this out yourself can be time consuming and difficult. Using a broker costs no more than going direct, so its basically a free service to you to find the best policy.

Health insurance brokers can be a great service both before and after purchase ... They can also be a 'fifth wheel' before and after purchase always feeling the need as on here to justify theIr existence.

The banks I mentioned have "medical insurance" and not just accident insurance, LMG has a very good coverage program (IMO) for about 7k/year "full coverage", i.e, hosptial, icu, surgery, etc., not "accident" specifically.

The policy I first took out with AIA wss PA (accident) that also had death benefit as do the others I mentioned, "extended"

So what's the problem - you get it no cheaper by going direct but by going through a broker you get help and if a problem comes with the hospital or insurance company they can help you sort things out - crazy not to use them

You are correct the banks to offer 'basic' medical cover and we agree LMG do offer good plans but unfortunately (for all of us !) you will not get "full coverage" from LMG or any other company for only 7k a year. For LMG the lowest "full cover" i.e. Maxi, premium is 18,515 Baht for the age group 5-18

All PA plans have a death benefit as standard - not 'extended'

I don't have any vested interest whether anyone investigates this or not and I may be wrong on some issues although I suggest any reader to check it out for themselves. You being an agent would of course be more knowledgeable on all issues...I'm merely responding with what little I know.

Both LMG & Kasikorn Bank have some very good health insurance programs for senior's...a simple Internet search will give all the details.

from post #14 So what's the problem? The only problem as I saw it is that the TVI website says that you will receive an online quote on their website and you do not receive an online quote ... there are many health insurance websites (including Aetna good Health) that are examples of online quotes.

from post #14 ... if a problem comes with the hospital or insurance company they can help you sort things out... OK, and who helps you sort things out when a problem comes up with your broker?

As per post #8: If I were to deal with a broker for purchase of a new health insurance policy, I would want them to objectively assess my requirements based on the facts and my current medical underwriting data and not on whether in their opinion I currently have appropriate or inappropriate coverage.
