Water Filter For Shower

Featured Replies

Been noticing recenty that the water coming out of my electric shower is really really hard.

Is there any sort of device I can get from Home pro etc that will soften it or filter it...? Like a kind of attachment to the shower head or hose or summin..?

I live in rented accomo so cant do too much work to it..

same situation here as well....would be interested to see if there is something that can be done?

how can water be 'hard'

If you jump off a diving board badly you will find water is very very hard. It also refers to the presence of salts in the water which stop the lathering process with soap. Have a look at google.

In water chemistry, water is classified as "hard" and "soft" on a scale. From what I understand, the mixture of dissolved minerals in the water and their concentration determines the hardness or softness of the water. (I used to keep tropical fish back home.) What you want to buy is one of those metal free-standing canister water filters and place it between your muni-water service or well and your storage tank and fill it with ion-exchange resin. The resin [tiny chemically treated plastic beads] chemically alters the water (causes the metal ions to "stick" to the resin beads) causing the water to become de-mineralized and thus soft.

There are also small filter units you can attach to interior water service points that have ion-exchange resin canisters available for them.

Cheers for the website link, very helpful

I don’t know if anyone still needs this (because this post is pretty old), but my friend has a shower filter and it works quite well for her. I dug into that a little bit. On home improvement websites like the spruce, houzz, or healthy kitchen 101, it’s been said that shower filters can handle hard water but only to a certain extent, as in the water’s alkaline level. If the water is too hard (over 60 ppm or something), a whole house water filter would be a better option. If that doesn’t work then maybe it’s your water lines. They might be releasing stuff into your water. Check if they needs maintenance. Cheers!
