I know this topic has been done to death, but Im sure the experts here could give me a better answer in a minute than I could come up with in an hour of searching so I appreciate any feedback.

1. I am on a 60 day tourist visa from USA, arrival on Sep 2, how exactly do I count the days? (stupid question, I know, I just wish they put the exp date on the stamp, since it would be easy to be off by a day depending on when they start counting)

2. What is the cost of getting an extension? I would only need a week or two, but I imagine extension is for 30 days

3. Would it make any difference in price or ease of getting extension if I had medical reason/letter from a doctor in Thailand?

4. If I flew to Vietnam or Singapore for short holiday, leaving at least a day before my visa expires, will I have any problem gettting new 30 day stamp on arrival back in BKK?

Thanks again for the help on any of the questions. There just seems to be so many different rules/advice out there, its hard to figure out what applies to my situation.

1. They always put a stamp in your passport admitted until with a date. September 2 was day one. If getting an extension do it a week or so early as you lose nothing.

2. 1,900 baht/tm.7 form and 4x6cm photo.

3. It would make it harder as extra paperwork would be required and cost would be the same.

4. No problem.

As said there will be a stamp in your passport. It should be 31st October.

Apply for the extension a few days early.

All extensions are 1,900 Baht whether it is 7,30,60 days or 12 months.

Just did this myself - USA 60-day tourist visa, same as you. I used the Bangkok immigration office at Chiang Wattana, its pretty painless. You don't need any special reason or excuse, just fill out the regular form and write down something like "continue touring in Thailand" as the reason for the extension. As long as you fill out the paperwork and pay the 1900b, they will most likely just give you the 30 day extension and not ask any questions (they didn't for me).

If you use the same office I did, you can get all required copies and photos downstairs from the immigration office, though I'm sure they would be cheaper elsewhere. Took less than 30mins once in the office, seemed very efficient, though a bit hectic.

As stated by lopburi3, the date you need to exit Thailand IS on your entry stamp, you must be missing it. And also good advice to go in a week early just in case, give yourself some extra time in case of emergency.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.

I have gone cover to cover in the passport, only 2 stamps from Thai, one on my departure card, one on the visa, both have 'Sep 2', but neither have any other date on them. The stamp on the departure card has an 'until' field-but that was left blank. Maybe this is a new procedure, or they just forgot to put exp date on there. I guess I will just start with Sep 2 as day 1, and count to 60. I really do have a medically necessary reason to stay, but there is no point mentioning this if it will not benefit me. Now I just have to decide if I wanna get the renewal or just do a border run...decisions, decisions. I just wish the dam_n fed would finally raise the interest rate, so the dollar stops free-falling towards becoming toilet paper. I know they are playing a silly game with China, but my Baht reserve is running low, and the ATM's are getting scarier by the day.

If you really do not have an entry stamp in your passport. i think you should pop along to immigration and get it looked at.

Indeed, there should be a stamp like the one on your departure card (but with the 'until' field filled in), if it's missing head on down to immigration and get it sorted (for free) ASAP.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Well, it looks like i will be heading down there for an extension, either Friday afternoon or Monday morning, depending on what time they close on Friday, since I will be coming up from Pattaya on Friday morning. Guess I will sort everything out at that time.

Aside from my passport and ฿1900, what else do I need to have before I get in line? (more photos????)

Photocopy of the "picture page" of your passport

Photocopy of the visa stamp, and arrival stamp in your passport

Photocopy of your departure card

Passport sized photo

You'll need to fill in form TM7 - which is available at the immigration office. I chose to download and print my own to save time (www.immigration.go.th - click on download forms - print it double-sided on one sheet), Probably a good idea to at least have a look at the form before you turn up at the officee, just to make sure you have all the proper info (ie - fight numbers, hotel address).

Thats perfect, thanks so much for the details. Seems like such a hassle, I could probably do a border run in less time, but oh well, I guess I can just view it as another thai adventure.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I was able to get my extension yesterday, even got a ride from a very nice local I managed to befriend, so I didn't even have to talk to anyone there. The copies are really cheap, 2 baht total for everything I needed, and the nice thing is they know exactly what to copy without even telling them, so really easy process. The photo was 100 baht, at the same place as the copies, but they gave me 4 copies of the picture, so I got to keep 3 of them. Should come in handy when I apply for my new passport in a few months. Very painless process, no long wait, friendly staff. Office was a bit out in the middle of nowhere, but since I got a free ride, it was ok. That building is just huge, and very nice. Im not sure why the atrium is the size of a football field, but I assume they put it to use for something.
