Travel Health Insurance For Australia

Featured Replies

Hi

I will be going to Australia for a short trip and I was wondering whether I need to buy travel health insurance?

Does anyone know which kind to buy?

Thanks! :jap:

Depends on where you are from. If you are from a country which has a health care agreement with Australia you are covered by the Medicare system - basically free care.

The UK is covered, Thailand is not. Your travel agent should know, if not I believe you can register on arrival.

Thanks for your reply. No, I'm not covered by Medicare. I just wonder if it's a requirement.I don't have a travel agent but it's good to know I can get it on arrival if necessary.

You should still get it in case you need repatriating.

If you are not from a country ,covered by Medicare, I would strongly suggest you buy it here. A good idea would be to contact the Australian Embassy to find out. Medical care , and ambulances,if you are not covered , are very expensive in Australia.

I believe BUPA has travel health insurance to cover you there. www.bupa.co.th I believe is the website for contact info.
