Travel Health Insurance For Australia

Featured Replies

Hi

I will be going to Australia for a short trip and I was wondering whether I need to buy travel health insurance?

Does anyone know which kind to buy?

Thanks! :jap:

Well that depends on if you are covered for free medical coverage - are you Australian or if not, does your country have reciprocal health agreements ?

Should you need on-line quotes please go HERE

Hi Peanut, all visitors to Australia need to buy travel insurance unless their existing health insurance covers travel or they are from Italy, UK, Sweden, Norway, - there may be a few others - which have agreements. Travel insurance won't cover pre-existing conditions and reciprocal agreements only cover things that happen whilst visiting Australia. I can't put links to external sites in this thread but there is a 'multi-choice, discount travel insurance site' you can find using any search engine which can give you a range of options.

I know that MediBank Private in Australia has what they call Overseas Visitors Coverage. I felt it was quite expensive for the coverage they gave though. I don't know how it compares to Travel Insurance you get though the airlines. I guess it all seems expensive until you need the coverage and then all of a sudden it became quite reasonable.:o

Thanks everyone.

Found some info in another thread about buying online.

I guess it's good to have it just in case.

Be a fool to come here with out it unless you are from UK, Sweden, Italy or Norway, not sure about the Kiwi's but they are everywhere here and don't seem to have any problems.

Thanks everyone.
