Diabetics, What Are You Eating For Breakfast?

Featured Replies

I have Diabetes Type 2 since about 5 years. I am curious what you diabetic guys are eating for breakfast?

Me too, for about 3 or 4 years.

Mostly I have egg and bacon for breakfast but the diet doctor I spoke to said that Kow Tom is better as it's less fattening. It has white rice so I have to tell the nanny to keep the portions small.

There's 'low glycemic' bread available in Villa that doesn't cause my BG to spike too much. There's also a line of products that go by the name 'Fifty50' that are low glycemic that claim not to cause a spike either. Worth checking out for the odd treat. They claim that half their profits go to diabetes research.

My numbers are crap at the moment. Must try harder!

Weetabix cereal with cold milk and sugar substitute sweetner. All from Tesco lotus. I sometimes crave for something real, have Bangkok bacon and eggs, then the Metformin gets it out through the back exit way too fast. ohmy.gif

Sugar in food isnt the main problem I have found although its important to limit, seems like animal fat in food is as bad or worse.

Funny old life aint it ?

Bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages (as long as they don't have much rusk filler). NO toast, no bread, no rice. Last HBa1c was 5.6. Fasting BG in the morning is around 5.2.

Two good websites are bloodsugar101.com and diabetes.co.uk. Bloodsugar measures the US way and co.uk measures the UK way. To convert UK measurements to US multiply by 18.

I have had type 2 for nearly 30 years and have been insulin dependant for over 20 years.

In many ways I have been able to control my sugar levels much better since I have been on insulin, as I take fast acting insulin before each meal and adjust the amount of insulin according the the size etc of the meal. If I spoil myself with the occasional ice cream, I just take a few units of insulin to keep my sugar levels under control. I then take a slow acting insulin overnight which keeps my sugar levels down when I am sleeping.

My breakfast consists of a small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice followed by a bowl of fruit muesli (no nuts) and a helping or two of all bran. This is followed by a very small portion of fresh fruit. It fills me up and keeps my bowel movements in excellent, regular condition. I now use low sugar soya milk with my cereal as I have developed a serious lactose intolerance.
