What'S The Story W/ This Building Near River?

Featured Replies

Right near Saphan Takson BTS - looks like it would have been a beautiful building...condos I guess...but now abandoned. Any info behind it?

A victim of the 96/97 crisis, but unlikely its sister which was bought and completed by a Singapore firm and it's now famous as State Tower, nobody came forward to complete it: too expensive to restore, too expensive to bring it down...

There is a building on Ratburana, condo, was completed 20 years ago and has remained empty ever since apart from 2 restaurants on the ground floor, we spoke with a woman in the restaurant and she said nobody ever bought a condo there. Whether she means they were never put up for sale I don't know, but the building is complete unlike many of the ghost buildings we see around town.

Actually the rumour says that there has recently been a potential buyer, but no deal as the price was too high. The building is probably owned by a bank and as with thousands of other unfinished or abandoned buildings/houses the banks are surprisingly not willing to sell at market price.

What we need is the local government to step up, and require that the owners complete or tear down the unfinished buildings within a reasonable time, as they are really ugly to look at for both tourists and residents of Bangkok. If the owner fails to complete or tear down the unfinished buildings within a reasonable time, the government should send heavy fines to the owners and if the fines are not being paid, take over the land and buildings at no cost, so they can be sold and completed or demolished as soon as possible. But this is Thailand so don´t expect that this logic solution will ever happen.
