People like you shouldnt be allowed to vote, you really have no understanding of the most basic economics, but just to keep you happy the DEBT will still be rising under the Tories, though the deficit will narrow by 2015.

Educate yourself by looking at how much govt. spending has risen in 13 years, by 2015 we'll only be back at 2008/9 levels as a % of GDP and you call this draconian.

You are right.Abhisit and Cameron are not contemporaries and don't know each other, but clearly there is a connection - both Old Etonians , Oxford graduates , highly intelligent (both got first class honours), political leaders and (dare I say it on this blue collar forum) well born and charming (Abhisit less so perhaps but he's better looking).It's entirely reasonable for Abhisit to extend an invitation - and let's face it this is a wonderful country in which to holiday.

However there can be nothing but contempt for the comments of this poster on the spending cuts in the UK.One can argue about timing but the reality is that the cuts themselves are beyond dispute.After the dishonest incompetent Labour government, Cameron has no choice but to cut deep so that the debt incurred so fecklessly is not passed on to our grandchildren.And if a large number of knuckle dragging welfare addicts (and their kindred proletarian spirits in Thailand) don't like it, I personally couldn't give a toss.

When for the first time - the great British public saw for the first time - governments - US and UK - and bankers at the feeding trough. The bankers did O.K. Their respective governments bailed them out. Their debt was nationalized.

Huge profits have gone to ordinary property owners in the last 13 years, so long as they sell/sold ... The govt/taxpayer owns most the banks and bought them at the very bottom of the market they will profit from them eventually.

But yes privatising profits and nationalising the losses is unbelievable, it happened under Labour govt though.

David Cameron urged to axe trip to Thailand

Campaigners are urging David Cameron to cancel his winter holiday in Thailand over claims the government there murdered protesters.

Activists accuse Thai premier Abhisit Vejjajiva – an Old Etonian like the PM – of widespread persecution of “Red Shirts” during rallies earlier this year.

Opposition party The United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship has sent a report about alleged human rights abuses to the International Criminal Court and called on Mr Cameron to call off his visit.

The accusations centre on the protests in March when up to half a million people descended on Bangkok, vowing not to leave until elections were called. They claim the government killed demonstrators and blocked access to websites.

Lots of mistruths in this whole story;

1. Cameron is free to take his holiday where he pleases, if the Human Rights Orgs in Britain think it's inappropriate to visit Thailand because of recent events they should compile a long list of countries recently responsible for questionable human rights, including Britain itself which illegally invaded Iraq with the US, resulting in some human rights abuses. Cameron wouldn't have anywhere to go on holiday.

2. Taking his holiday in Thailand is much cheaper than the Caribbean or Med, so it sends out the right message to the British public that he too is being budget-thoughtful, if 850,000 Britons can still afford to come to Thailand on holiday then why can't Cameron.

3. If he's coming here in a private capacity then, the who political crisis shouldn't have anything to do with it. If Thailand is good enough to attract prime ministers for private holidays it deserves the credit and positive publicity.

4. Even if "Mark' and David did pay a courtesy call on each other I'm sure they would have plenty to 'catch up' since the two attended Eton and Oxford at the same time and would likely have mutual acquaintances, it's common for people to meet up with fellow alumni and reminisce, give them a break!

Not sure what this means - thought the coalition government was in trouble for removing benefits for the well off, also for imposing bank levy which was resisted by New Labour.

However there is a certain amount amusement to be derived from this Cameron visit a propos the reactions of the local British visa running/ bar fly contingent.The distaste for the British lower and lower middle class (the predominant social group here in Thailand among the Brit group I mentioned)) for anyone deemed posh or a toff is scarcely to be underestimated.Cameron therefore is a key hate figure.However they can't really compute how he could be the honoured guest of Abhisit (whom they generally admire), scourge of the Reds and the dark lord Thaksin.Doesn't compute.Doesn't compute.

What this shows is the ludicrous class sensitivity of the British.Every Brit knows that Thatcher's father was a grocer from Grantham.Americans generally neither know nor care what Reagan's father did for a living.

Even a 1/2 Thai born in another country can claim Thai Citizen AND keep home Passport, but a farnang, to become a Thai has to 'renounce' home Citizen. very inconsistennce ... oh, and there is no way to 'denounce' British Citenship! even if somebody did, they could STILL get a PP by showing their birth certificate.
