Vaccination Shots And Medical

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need to get an offshore medical done..X-ray, blood, urine, drug etc.. i will be using forms provided by my agency.

Also need to get shots for..

Tetanus

Diphtheria

Typhoid

Hep A & B

Polio booster

Does BKK Pattaya Inter have a specific doctor specializing in this ..don't fancy spending the day in the Hospital so was thinking maybe Pattaya Inter would be a better bet as its smaller ?

Have a yellow book from the US and i'm sure when i went to Pattaya Inter few years ago they didn't what it was ?? so would be good if the doctor could actually recognize what it is .. maybe things have changed since ?

cheers

The industry recognised offshore medical is done at Bamrungrad or Samitivej in Bangkok, no exceptions. It used to be called the UKOOA medical (still referenced as such) but is correctly named the OGUK medical now. Before you fork out any money on getting any medical and tests, get the agency to clarify what is acceptable. If they suggest getting it done at any local hospital using their paperwork and their paperwork isn't specifically UKOOA/OGUK, I would try another agency!

Here's the info from this web page.

I recall getting my shots revalidated at the government hospital in Banglamung once many moons ago. This was on the recommendation of the old PIC as they didn't have some of the vaccines required. It was probably cheaper too. The Banglamung doctor was quite happy to enter the details and dates in my old UK-issued yelow record book. However, when I had a round of boosters done last year in the UK, that establishment insisted in using their own record book but did transcribe my shot history.

I would assume that PI and BP are better able to do innoculations these days but they are probably over priced. Once again, ask your agency for assistance.

The next step will be the offshore safety training. Post when you are ready.

Forms were company specific but pretty much covered everything, even had a stool sample question but luckily was marked under 'on special request'.. got it all sorted today in Pattaya International, including all the shots.. had the Hep shots few years ago but didn't follow up as the hospital back then didn't seem to grasp what i was talking about when i showed them the yellow book..

Would have to wait 10 days for the Alcohol & Drug test so he ticked ok as i said i was in a hurry and he signed it off on the med cert for 3 years as i showed him it was company policy if under 40 yo

No need for the offshore side as i will be working "remote" onshore (at the other end of the pipe so can get a beer :) )

On another note... first time with this particular agency and mentioned in passing if the medical was reimbursable... told me first one was not... said i never ever paid for a company medical and this wasn't normal but they weren't budging !!.. anyway, cost me 10,000 baht so not a whole lot in the big picture as i may have a couple of years work but maybe sign of the times... don't think they would pull that stunt a few years back especially as it would probably cost 3 times as much in UK <_<
