My TGF's sister just got married to a guy from Scotland and just recieved her marriage visa back from the embassy and it says no work or recourse to public funds, she had planned to join her husband in scotland next month and be able to work. I'm from usa and our rules after marriage is that she would need a green card to work. Does anybody know the details I can show her so she understands what she has to do or why her visa says this. Thanks guys

It sounds like a bizarre error, but the following clarifications may be relevant:

Was the marriage a marriage at an amphoe? (Key phrase: thabian somrot) The public ceremony counts for nothing in law.

What she received sounds like one of the following:

1) A visitor's visa for the purpose of marriage - but I thought immigration status was again irrelevant to the ability to marry in the UK - or is Scotland different?

2) A fiancée visa - for the purpose of marriage, after which she would apply for leave to remain.

Is her 'husband' British. If not, what gives him the right or permission to live in Scotland?

You may well get some better suggestions soon - I'm out of touch with immigration processes nowadays.

She and her husband (scotland citizen) got married at the quote un quote court house/ law office as my tgf said the day they all went down there said and got married they got there legit thai marriage papers. Prior she had a fiance visa to visit him in scotland. Just before it expired they traveled to LOS to get married, after the legal marriage he had to return to scottland for work and wait her visa so she could join him. Her visa says Multi entries looks to be valid for 2 years and 3 months type: VISA MARRIAGE/(husbands name and date of birth) under the line that says passport no. sex blah blah it says Obsrv. No work or recourse to public funds. Hope this helps to find some explanation. I seen it and said looks like no worky for you youcan go there but sit at the house all day while he works :annoyed:. But I'd like to get her some better info. As she's very upset at the moment. Thank again guys
