Delta flight attendants reject AFA representation

2010-11-04 03:21:42 GMT+7 (ICT)

ATLANTA (BNO NEWS) -- Delta Air Lines on Wednesday said it has received notification from the National Mediation Board (NMB) that a majority – more than 53 percent - of flight attendants voting in the election rejected representation by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA).

"We have said all along that we believe our direct relationship works well for our people and our company. Our flight attendants have spoken and we are pleased that so many flight attendants agree," Delta said.

There were 9,544 votes cast against and 8,778 in favor of joining the AFA.

"This is a win for all Delta flight attendants. We are pleased not just with the outcome, but also with the fact that so many of you let your voice be heard," said Delta Senior Vice President of In-Flight Service Joanne Smith.

But AFA said it will file interference charges with the National Mediation Board. "We are extremely disappointed that once again, Delta management overwhelmed flight attendants with heavy handed intimidation and coercion of voters," AFA President Patricia Friend said in a statement.

Delta is the only major U.S. carrier that is still mostly union-free.
