I'm getting married next year in Bangkok and am looking for advice on a nice place to do the deed. We'd like to have a nice but simple garden wedding with about 100 guests. We're not looking for anything fancy or ostentatious, no huge hotel ballrooms, no intricate dowry ceremonies or any of that jazz (my girl's family is pretty cool about that), just a nice, fun ceremony in a nice setting.

I've checked a few locations online, and the prices I'm getting are anywhere from 100,000 baht to 400,000 baht (all in - meal, ceremony, decorations, etc) but get the impression plenty of places will try to soak you for as much as they can. Does anyone have any advice on a) a nice place to do it and B) rough idea of costs? I'm new to this whole game. :)

Thanks.

What is your budget? I think you need to establish that first.

If your future in-laws are cool about the dowry and all, do you know that traditionally it is the bride's family that organizes the wedding?

It would be good to get them to do this.

If you will pay for it, fine, tell them what your budget is and not one baht more.

Is your fiancee doing any research?

My wife and I did everything ourselves, but most of the planning was done by her. Yes, I paid.

It was a fantastic wedding and was worth every baht.

We had a traditional wedding ceremony in the morning and an awesome party in the evening.

All at The Rose Garden Riverside in Nakhon Pathom.

Check it out. They do packages.

PM me if you want to know how much it cost.

Friends of mine got married at Jim Thompson's house. It wasn't very expensive. The food is crap but the location is nice

They jimmied the door after the last tourist had left, knocked out the security guard with a kosh, ate his moo ping and sticky rice that he'd bought from a street vendor and drank his M-150. :D

This company organises wedding charters - but only up to 75 people. Price seems to be around 1,000 THB per person.

Link - Rice Barge

If you are doing the Amphur Office marriage in the morning and a party in the evening you could just book 100 places on one of the regular Chao Phraya river cruises and agree a set menu for your guests (including drinks). Most of the cruises include entertainment/dancing/karaoke and, of course, you get to see the temples and palace lit up.

Plenty of choices if you Google, but I have used this one many times (though never for more than 12 people) and it's good Riverside Cruise.

PROVISO - Not in rainy season - sometimes the boats can't make the full trip due to the river being too high, or too fast.

It wasn't that bad !

The big wedding was in Switzerland, they just wanted a small party for the friends who couldn't travel to Europe. The buffet was a bit basic but ok. We had a good time, that's what matters.

OP

We found a stunning place near Pak Kret called Suan Thip Link Here.

They do both Thai and Western Weddings (if that is what you are after)

If you are going down the Thai Wedding route, you can choose which elements you want them to do (ie Monk Ceremony/Kanmark/Engagement & Wedding Ceremony). We asked them to do Monk & Wedding Ceremony and came in at $90,000 THB. We decided to do Kanmark ourselves as it works out much cheaper (Which they had no problem with) !

As for the food, if I remember it come in at approx 1200 THB per head + booze. I take my hat off to them, they organized everything and the only thing we had to arrange was the money for the monks.

We also had a brilliant Photographer. Team of 4 came in and we got 2 DVD's fill of excellent photos. One of them was the owner of their little business, and without her our day would have been a bit of a disaster no thanks to other people. PM me if you would like her details as well. Absolutely Brilliant

All the best and Good Luck

What wine did you chose to go along with the tent?

Wine is wasted on most Thais.

We had lots of beer.

The local chief of police did not come, but sent a couple of his junior officers.

It adds up very quickly...

Hotel, Food, Wine+beer+Whiskey, Flowers, Band, MC's, photo backdrop (for arriving guests)... Fortunately my wife and I recovered our costs through the traditional donations that guests offer (which ranged from B200 to B80,000 and averaged about B1500 per person).

Working out a budget per head is probably the best option (ours worked out at about B1400 pp after accounting for ALL costs (dress, suit etc) with approximately 1000 guests) and with that in mind we could work around our final budget and not find ourselves out of pocket. It sounds un-romantic but knowing that your costs are likely to be covered takes the edge off the costs.

Many hotels have smaller rooms - I have to say that the Authors lounge at the Oriental (fit for between 100 and 300 guests) is probably one of the nicest settings for a wedding in Bangkok.

Friends have been married in one of the function rooms at the Peninsular hotel by the river which was also a lovely setting.

If your fiance and yourself spend a few days running around Bangkok you will find plenty of suitable places.

Additionally 'Wedding Season' is approaching. Keep your ear to the ground as there are often wedding fares held are various and somewhat random places (hotels etc).

This is not being cynical, but, once you have worked out the price - to the last baht, and have organised whoever to do it all, and everything is going well,- expect the final cost to be about twice the original price. If you accept this in advance, it avoids all the stress at your wedding. Thai weddings are great, but some things are unexpected. If you think there will be 100 people - expect 200. Go with the flow and have a great day.

I got married at M.R Kukrit's house in Sathorn on Narathiwat Soi 7, a lovely older Thai style house with a nice garden. http://www.kukritsho...d.com/index.php

From memory it was around THB 35k to rent for the day. As others have noted, additional expenses can quickly add up when you start considering invitations. flowers, lighting, stage, DJ, band, tables/chairs/plates/cutlery rent, rings, food, alcohol etc etc etc, but I thought it was a very reasonable price for a venue with so much character - I really could not be bothered with another non-descript hotel wedding.

For catering we used Fuzio who were very good and had a range of price options and 'specials' on offer (e.g we went for the moderately priced menu but added chocolate/fruit fondue and roast joints of ham as a couple of 'premium' offerings).

Another option is to head out of Bangkok- my mate is getting married in Saraburi in January at a nice resort, so I expect it will have a nice 'natural' feel and presumably be much cheaper than Bangers.

Best of luck with your planning !
