Where To Buy A Good Mountain Bike In Cm?

Have a look at the Cycling in Thailand forum pages. Lots of bits of advice and comments about the bike shops locally.

"A good" mountain bike is all relative to how much you want to spend.

What you need is someone who'll give you good advice and fir you to the bike properly.

Not all the shops here in CMX are capable of doing that.

Having said that Spin Bike built my lightweight Orbea MTB which cost me +/- 100,000. I probably paid them over the top but I'm happy with the bike.

Specialised Bikes from Cherry are great too but they may not honour Specialised warranties.

WhiteCad, What kind of riding are you looking for? There is a lot of good road riding around and behind Doi Kham where you see the white Buddha up on the hill. Even a trail to a little-known waterfall.

From the Night Safari you can also take some nice quiet roads south all the way to OpKhan National Park, take a nice swim, and then head back home. If you are looking for more off-road riding, I can send you some GPS coordinates for a nice isolated work-out from OpKhan back to the Samoung Road.

Good suggestion on the fit, as you well might know they just sell you what they have on the floor, and it seems that they fit them to small. I'm 5'7'" (170 cm) and had a tough time finding a bike big enough for me! As to where to go in the country, just hop on the saddle, it seems every ride I have is beautiful as long as I sty away from the main roads and search out the dirt ones.

I think it's called the Ratchapakinai road, from Tapae square into the sunday walkingstreet road, next junction (not the narrow soi's) turn left, after few hundred metres on a corner, right side. Specialized mountainbike shop by passionate people and selling and maintaining the brand bikes like Trek etc. The owner gives good advise on which one may be suitable for you. Good bikes starting around 10k.

White Cad, I was out at Cherry Bike on HWY118 getting a wheel re-strung today and noticed that they have a large collection of bikes at the moment. You might try there. I was also pleasantly surprised to see an old mountain biking buddy working there as a mechanic. Their shop is one of the neater ones in the area, and that is one thing that has steered me away from Chaitawat after they lost a free wheel spring from my HOPE hub. The mechanic there is forced to work outside.

I'm having no success finding Cherry Bike... would you put up a few directions please? Many thanks...

You bet. Leaving CM on HWY 118 after you cross the river, go straight at the Super HWY intersection. It is not far from this intersection, and before the next traffic light. As you see the next traffic light coming up, look for a huge DUNLOP TIRE sign, yellow and black I think, above a tire store. Cherry Bike is just beyond this a door or two. Not well marked so you will have to look for bikes in the storefront.

Aaah... I know that big Dunlop sign. Thanks a lot for your help!

T-Dog he is not really forced to work out side :) . Lets say he prefers to work outside like many Thai do. Chaitawat works in the back of the shop and he can work on the second floor (aircon) as well. Thai have a different working style and way of (not) organizing things. I have to admit it drives me nuts sometimes.

Correction, they seem to fit them to big and i had trouble finding one small enough for me and I'm average size for a Thai or falang. I went to Chaitwat today and they were great. Did not buy a bike but they were helpful, friendly etc. once they knew I was a real customer.
