The rains have exposed a major design or build problem with our roof which has resulted in soggy falling ceiling plasterboard in three rooms so it not just a single tile!

Obviously the source of the problem needs to be sourced and fixed professionally, not looking for a typical 'bodge' job only to have same problem next year and as this may be insurance job we would like to get someone reputable and knowledgeable to fix it.

Do the good people of TVF Samui have any recommendations?

The Farang owned one that has advert banners on both the english language samui newspapers. Never used them but i assume they must be busy... because advertising on the front of the newspapers costs a small fortune by samui standards

....had some roofers on my roof for 4.000. Thought, ok expensive, but ok, so it will be perfect..........

In reality they just made a little here and a little there and it dropped into the room like before next time it rained heavily. They said, they guarantee, so......I called them.....no one answered for days.....finally they came and made a little here and a little there and it dropped into the room like before next time it rained heavily.......

There is a guy from the UK/Scotland by the name of Caz in the Fishermans Village who has many years in the business back home.

very professional and knows exactly what he's talking about when it comes to roofs

I dont have his number but once I get it I will PM you

If throwing money at newspapers and magazines to advertise made for a good company then Idive would be the biggest and the best on Samui. They went bust if you didn't know.

He has only started advertising so presume he is a new face on the island ? There is a big roofing company on the way to Lamai near namuang with a big Bob the builder character on the sign. Have you tried the pinned tradesmen post ?

Thankfully the roof on this place has turned out to be a good one. no leaks at all during the storms and heavy rains.

I can remember my nextdoor neighbour getting somebody in to do his roof. 2 Thai gus turned up with around 100 tubes of silicone sealer and proceeded to climb over the roof squirting silicone everywhere. Not pretty :o

Good luck with the roof

You could try Cheer Force, have used them for various things (but not roofs),very reliable and khun Jagkree speaks very good English, only problem is they could be pretty busy at the moment. His number is 081 869 9697. Good Luck.

I know three people with leaking roofing problems and all caused by "cutting back" on the amount of tile & materials originally used, not allowing enough over lap of the tiles.... & a lack of cross support.... (girders?) ....

which in normal rain may be fine, but obviously not in the heavy down pours we recently been getting... the tiles or sheets tend to shift...if they were not tied down correctly.... . & water seeps under the over laps...

My roof, which is fine, seems to have about 8' overlap. Those with problems about 4" over lap..... & some not even tied down where they should be....

Silicone maybe the short term solution for a few cracks, but from what I have seen, the roofs need to be totally redone with some new cross girders (I think that is the correct term?) & re-tiled ....

With the smaller clay type tiles, the angle of slope would have a baring too.

Then you will have the replacing of gyp-rock / plaster board ....where overly damp... If not shown up all ready there will be black mold spots in the wettest areas...these areas will need replacing.... actually that is easier to do, although messy! :o .....

Home Mart (Maenam) sells a clear liquid, to apply to help prevent the mold on gyp-rock .... (not sure of the name of it, I seem to remember it was an orange or yellow 5 gallon container) & was applied at one person's place & seems to have helped....(then ceiling paint applied)...... There was a strong smell for about a day....after this stuff was applied... but then dissipated....

The roof at this one place should be totally redone, when weather clears.... (The contractor who did this job a couple of years ago, now out of business  )

Sorry cannot help on who to suggest.... I think at present it is a case of following some of the leads already mentioned..... good luck!

the problem is not only the roof it is also the structure of the house. i used super block with my house because the ground under the house is always moving. this is what makes gaps in the roof and starts to leak.

My neighbour had a leaking roof problem and he called in Palm Construction. They fixed the leak and seemed to know what they were doing.

I do not have a number for them, but their office is the 3rd shop-house at the almost new Samui Town Centre .(It's on the ring road, on the left, a few kilometers from the Bophut Traffic lights - heading towards Chewang. Opposite a gym.)
