Htc Smartphone Software Update

If I source an HTC Smartphone (Desire HD?) from Europe, will I be able to download and install operating software updates whilst living in Thailand?

If it is not branded by a carrier, probably yes.

The HTC support web site allows for regional based downloads/updates so should work anywhere in world. That's what I have found for Thai purchased HTC.

I've got an HTC Wildfire purchased in Europe and have been able to update the device's software (android 2.1) where I'm working in rural Vietnam. Looks like if you can connect your device to the internet wherever you are you just activate the pre-installed software update feature et voila..I presume that out here in the boonies we are on a GSM/EDGE signal and not 3G...

I have not been able to get my Nexus one to complete the installation for any of the OTA updates, when I phoned HTC they did not know what the Nexus one is . I get the OTA but it keeps aborting. Did you have the same problem at some stage?

on yer device try settings>about phone>system software updates and see what happens...the update when detected online is automatically installed like with windows on a PC and needs no intervention...I wouldn't try to independently download an update from a website and then try to install...

you can also refer to the ponderous owner's manual (available online) for device specific information...

My US purchased Nexus One Gets all the OTA updates and installs them just fine.

You may search the xda developer forums for your model and update your phone manually with the stock ROM or maybe cyanogen's mod

i didn't see it mentioned, but they do push via EDGE, whereas i thought HTC would only push an update if connected to a WiFi.

my wife just got the 2.2.1 the other day over data. i was very surprised.

I imported an unlocked HTC Desire from the UK and have had no problems downloading (via wifi or EDGE) and installing updates (providing I have enough memory free).
