It would seem you would have to fly down to BKK then out to Saigon, dont know of any flights that go as you would like.:jap:

Can only suggest asking directly within Udon Airport, there "schedule" does not show ANY flight operators travelling from Udon to Saigon: check here http://www.udonthaniairport.udonmap.com/

scroll down to see schedule.

Udon is not an International airport, Domestic only. You only have 2 choices , possibly Chiang Mai, maybe, but I doubt it, then Bkk.,Yes they will, from Swampy

Sorry, I should have added ,Maybe only Vietnam Airlines will fly that route, out of Swampy. They actually are ,on International routes a very good airline. I flew with them , Bkk.-H.C.M.-Mel. Brand new plane. Ozzie pilot. Good flight.

So Vientiane isn't a so bad option.

Good one.I had not even thought of Vientiane as an option. Be much quicker, but does involve 1 more visa- Laos.Does that create a problem for the O.P.?

If he's going round trip via Vientiane it will mean 2 Lao visas adding considerably to the cost.

That is what concerned e. What is the cost of a Laos Visa these days? I haven't been to Laos for about 7 years

For most nationalities its between $25-35 dollars for a 30 day visa on arrival. Canadians get slugged $42.

The other possible problem is every visa from Laos takes up a whole dam_n page of your passport.

As does Cambodia. Awful waste of a page. Before I retired ,passports lasted such a short time, and so expensive to renew

...... and be sure you're having a visa for Vietnam (which you could get in Vientiane and hence would make the trip worthwile). There is definitely and despite different statements NO VISA on arrival without prior arrangements which costs unnecessarily money.

If you would have time, take the bus from Vientiane to Attapeu; then on to Bo Y from where you cross into Vietnam. The trip takes you two days and is much more fun than flying.

There is a Vietnam Consulate in Khon Kaen that issues visas.:whistling:

No way!

If he has a ticket to fly from Vientiane he can get a transit visa in Lao, free of charge, 5 days validity.

Did it while the yellows closed the Bangkok airports and I needed to be in Hanoi. Flew Lao Air from Udon to Luang Prabang and then on to Hanoi. Had lunch in Udon, decent layover in LPQ (about 3 hours, in transit. no visa) and in Hanoi for tea. Maybe Vietnam Air does the LPQ-SGN sector as Lao Air only serves Saigon from Vientiane I think. Otherwise you can use Vietnam Air to hop from Hanoi to Saigon.
