The truly sad thing is what kind of psychological problems is that poor child going to have growing up in that environment. I mean, the mother was vicious. I can understand being angry at a child, I can even accept that physical punishment is sometimes called for, but that was just pure hate.

I guess this woman figured out that beating her children leaves marks that can be found by a doctor, but this allows her to brutalize them with no evidence. How truly sad. I'm sorry I even watched it.

I have never approved of the invasiveness of social services in the West with regard to raising children, but it is quite clear that Thailand is too far the other direction. Parents like this need help. We will all have to live with the consequences of what she did when that child gets older and starts interacting with society.

I hope there is a loving grandparent or aunt/uncle who can help to undo the damage.

That is disgusting, but probably behavior like this is more common than you think.

I have seen Thai mothers beating their children with sticks and coat hangers and am appalled that this is considered acceptable behavior.

Nothing new i am afraid, i don't think that anyone been here long enough will be surprised about this kind of behauvoir, to abuse, cheat, steal, etc on anything they can, people, pets, the environment just to get that immediate (false) advantage, "the shortcut" , i am sorry for the victims.
