BANGKOK, Dec 1 - The Thailand International Motor Expo 2010 kicked off Wednesday under the concept of "Unify…Create Earth-loving Vehicles" with money in circulation expected at around Bt23 billion and at least 20,000 cars expected to be pre-ordered.

Organising chairman of the motor show Kwanchai Paphatphong said the number of cars to be pre-ordered was set in accordance with that of last year where the number of reservations reached 25,220, over 7,000 higher than the 15,000 automobiles targetted. He said the actual sales depended also on various factors including Thailand's economy and politics, while the end of the year is usually the season of changing cars in order to welcome the upcoming new year.

Thirty-six car producers from 13 countries worldwide and three motorcycle producers are participating in the fair, with all having their sales promotion campaigns.

Small eco-cars are the market trend for automobiles next year due to world market demand on environmental concerns, said Mr Kwanchai, while believing the market for pick-up trucks for commercial purposes (one-tonne pickup) will maintain its growth, for Thailand is one of the world's bases for auto manufaction and auto export.

The Expo is held through Dec 12 at Impact Challenger 1-3, Bangkok's Muang Thong Thani on the total space of 85,000 square metres -- 60,000 indoors and the rest, 25,000 outdoors, Mr Kwanchai said.

The Thailand International Motor Expo 2010 includes new and used cars, cars for commercial purposes, and many auto-related gadgets.

At the event, some car producers launched their automobile innovations to attract visitors. Leading car manufacturers, including Mazda, Mitsubishi, Hyndai and Tata Motors, feature prototypes of electric automobiles and eco-cars with hybrid technology, aiming to be environmentally-friendly vehicles.
