I'm unemployed but the US govt. pays me nothing. Luckily I'm self employed(31 and semi-retired in Pattaya) and live a great life abroad just using my laptop. PM me for details on how you can do the same. thumbsup.gif

If you don't have a salary it's because you don't have a job.

If you are looking for work then you have a job, you just don't have a salary.

The job you have is getting a job, just like the self employed.

Glad you came up with that link, my father in law is collecting nothing and he had a heart attack/ stroke at work. It left him with some paralysis down the left side and he can never work again.

I noticed the link had Thai and English and was very helpful; I will now make sure he gets an Invalid Pension until he is due for the pension at 55.

Imagine if every single person in the world without a job could be persuaded to kill themselves, the end of the world recession in an instant and a host of other problems too. smile.gif

LOL, Right. :)

Actually, what would happen is that you'd then have fewer consumers, thus a need for fewer goods and services and even more people would be out of work. Demand would drop, as in supply and demand. A contraction is always hard to recover from.

Well, after having paid into the Thai Social Security System for years, I am told I can claim benefits, although I am not a Thai national. If I was laid off: 50% of monthly salary (not exceeding 15,000) and this for 6 months. If I resigned: 30% of monthly salary (not exceeding 15,000) for 6 months.

I have no problem going to the govt and claiming this benefit. I have paid the maximum social security contribution for years (by law) and pay a substantial figure in taxes as well. I shall pursue this and report back to the forum. If it turns out that it is possible for a foreigner to claim unemployment benefits in Thailand then I will start a new thread.

The only sensible answer in 2 pages of bs. Yes expats who have contributed can also claim. You can also claim the state pension (about 2,000 a month I think, lol)

Come to Ireland and get 200 euro per week........thats why we are bust now.ph34r.gif

Ireland's problems aren't from bailing out the unemployed. They're from bailing out the (formerly) rich banks.

And the Farmers getting mega rich by planting and Harvesting Zilch!

You're right, we don't want this to happen. Imagine no more new models of iPhones, iPads etc....the end of the world. sad.png

Good link - I can't see the age that a foreigner can start claiming a pension.

I've met quite a few expats here that don't take advantage of their benefits. I know one guy with 3 kids who didn't claim the monthly payments for them until they were 6 yeas old. That works out as 64,000 Baht.

I find it disgusting that only Thais who paid into the system receive benefits. This goes against everything our Western governments have taught us about equality and fairness.

What is fair about people who do work having to pay for people that don't work.
