Here's an attractive option at Le Meredien, offering a Christmas Eve and Christmas Day feast at a reasonable price - less than

1,000 baht per person (unless you want a bottle of wine). It goes without saying that this is more in line with a traditional holiday meal (not just a lot of seafood):

I'm going to the Holiday Inn with friends!

I can't believe that @ 1200 baht I'm going to be impressed! I mean, that's 48 portions of Khow Soi! But hey, someone's paying for me to go...

so can't really complain :)

I'm too looking forward for a report from Goodview!

<snip for brevity>

I don't mind paying a little more as long as you get quality and i'm on a thai wage no english pounds left for me.

I believe that makes you one of the fortunate ones, these days, speaking as one whose income derives from overseas ! :o

Wot no 'roasties' (oven-roasted potatoes) or steamed (not boiled) Brussels-sprouts ? ! :o

Agreed I like roast potatoes with my Christmas Dinner, I'll do the usual it will be down to the gai yang stall for the bird some potatoes in the oven, homemade sage and onion stuffing, some brussel sprouts that I got frozen from carrefour this week, local veggies and a stollen christmas pudding that was sent in a red cross parcel from Blighty. All washed down with a few glasses of Mont Clair red wine :D

This sounds like the option I had been waiting for, perhaps Mr Venturalaw, we meet and might exchange experiences about one other place we recently talked about. :-))

Absolutely. This option is one of the very few that offers the 'real deal' for a fairly reasonable price. Others offer quantity (not necessarily quality) at a grossly inflated price.

Gekko Garden has Christmas Dinner/buffet at the non English times of 6.30pm and 9.30pm, at only 350bht. (50bht in advance as a booking fee) seems very reasonable to me....

Does anyone know what is on the menu? This place seems to have a lot of fans and the price is not easy to beat.

Probably not overloaded with fish. I heard that it has whole turkeys.

Gold and Silver Cards can be used on Christmas Day - as on every other day!!

for the uninitiated: Gold Cards are for residents of Northern Thailand and offer 10% off all bills and Silver Cards are for longer stay tourists and offer 5% off all bills

Caf: you need to factor that in when assessing whose Christmas Dinner is the best value!!

Sounds like a food war.

I agree with uptheos- do we really need to stuff ourselves into a state of insensibility, just because it is a holiday?

But then I remembered my history. All of this is pagan Norse tradition, transmuted into "The Holiday Season".

All the livestock were slaughtered this time of year in northern Europe- no grass or grain to feed them, so huge roasts, and meat was plentiful only at this time.

I think I'll start out at Olde Bell, slowly graze my way over to The Duke's, and then.......

I compared menus and net of discount prices; so yes I did factor it in. Only my opinion of course - there is a lot of choice out there

but not for under 35's lol.

americans over 60 talking about the grand prix and american history is the norm, and a chain smoking host on the roadside!!!!

just an opinion from my experience .free speach and all

wow! i don't want to get into a bidding war over Christmas Dinner! Nick has been host at Mad Dogs since I was a boy traveller coming here for my hols! I have played golf with him a few times over the years! he's a good guy He runs a nice pub. He has a good Christmas Package! So he smokes! We've all got vices!

For the record, there are a number of pub type options for Christmas Dinner: Kevin at Red Lion is another option, O'Malley's, The Pub, and a few others. All I wanted to do as a sponsor of Thai Visa Chiang Mai forum was to present our option. My fellow pub Landlords- most of whom are my friends, have equally valid options! All I'm asking is that you consider us as one of the possiblities. We're nearly full now, but we'd love to see Thai Visa members for a beer or two during the Big Day!!
