I believe that you will need to take a bus from Ubon to Udon Thani and then change to Nong Khai.

There are two bus stations in Udon, so make sure you know if u are arriving/departing from the old or new bus stations

If you google TAT Thailand and then drill down to Ubon and Udon, there will be a listing for the relevant TAT office. I regularly call the various TAT regional offices and get reasonable information. Just be patient cos usually u need to explain to the TAT staff, that 'I don't know' isn't an answer and perhaps someone else might know ..... be patient and u'll eventually get the answer

In so far as I am aware ,there is no direct Ubon- Udon V.I.P.. You can take V.I.P. from Ubon to Buriram, then 1st class (short journey) Buriram to Khon Kaen, then 1st or V.I.P., to Nong Khai. To do this in 1 day ,you will need to take V.I.P., dep. Ubon at 12.15.Your rail alternative is Ubon- Ayutthya-Nong Khai. Happy travelling

What class of bus? The route? And travel time? I would be very interested to know. Hope to get a reply

I get the feeling, that the O.P. misunderstood the timetable. .It looks suspiciously like a 3rd class timetable. Not a V/I/P/, as he wanted. It is a very long way from Ubon to Udon.By non air ,no toilet and not only stopping at bus stations, 3rd class stop anywhere and everywhere, it could be an horrendous trip.It is a minor route,so it will not support, anything(at best) above 2nd class. But I suspect it is a 3rd.class service.Would love to be proved wrong The 19.00 hours service to Nong Khai may be a better quality service, as there is only 1 day.

I thought that the Nakonchai Air buses to Chiang Mai from Ubon went via Khon Kaen. Maybe wrong (certainly some of the Ubon to Changmai long distance buses go that way), but if I'm right they would be a good choice for the first leg. Probably the best long distance scheduled services in Thailand. Khon Kaen to Nong Khai is not too far and I am sure there are regular good buses on that route.

Nakonchai Air , Ubon -Chiang Mai stops to pick up and set down at Si Sa Ket, Surin ,Buriram, Chaiyaphum,Phitsanulok.Thence to Ching Mai. It does not go via Khon Kaen.
