george
TAT seeks to lure millions to its website with new app By Suchat Sritama The Nation Published on December 24, 2010 BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand is approaching travellers through its "Amazing Thailand" mobile application, hoping to double its website page views to 100 million over the next six months. TAT announced that it had made uptodate information about Thailand tourism accessible through smart phones such as iPhone, Blackberry and Android, as well as iPad and iPod Touch. The move is aimed at attracting smartphone and Internet users to visit the website and get the latest information about Thailand, including attractions, photos and instant information. Among national tourism organisations, TAT follows only Australia and Singapore in Facebook members, with 1.2 million around the world. TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni said more than 550 million people used social networks, especially Facebook. Of that number, 150 million people use Twitter. In Thailand alone, there are 6.9 million Facebook users. TAT expects to increase its website page views from 50 million to 100 million in the next six months, after introducing its new application. Eventually, the authority targets more than 300 million people for its application and website. -- The Nation 2010-12-
LaoPo
If they would only make their sister website* more accessible where people could study the REAL facts and number of tourists from inbound tourism... * http://tourism.go.th/2010/th/home/index.php if the new TAT website is as fast as this one I predict the number of viewers will not go from 50 to 100 million but from 50 to 25 million. A disaster! LaoPo

surayu
I don't know about their other investments, but what i have seen is that they are splashing out lots of cash on television advertisings with foreigner channels as BBC and National Geo, litterally bombarding with those images of Bangkok being flooded as a new Venice and other sci-fi images, perhaps there is a not so hidden plan behind the imminent unavoidable disaster.... animatic
Who would be downloading this app? Yes, a good question. While it is forward thinking to do this, it also would be used more by those already sold and /or already trying to pedal Thailand the market segment. But they must do SOMETHING to justify their salaries.
