Palestinians shot by Israeli forces near Gaza border

2010-12-24 07:35:40 GMT+7 (ICT)

GAZA (BNO NEWS) -- Four Palestinians were injured on Thursday when Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) shot at them as they approached the Gaza border fence, the Jerusalem Post reported.

IDF confirmed that troops fired at a group of people who entered a restricted area along the Gaza border with Israel. Initial reports indicate that at least four people were injured, including a 14-year-old boy who sustained a head injury.

However, no official report has been issued and the cause that provoked the attack is currently unknown.

In another related incident, IDF troops arrested a mentally ill boy near the central West Bank settlement of Beit El on Wednesday night. Israeli soldiers spotted the boy walking towards the settlement and detained him without firing any shots.

According to the Haaretz newspaper, the boy was behaving in a strange manner and the IDF soldiers initially believed he was intoxicated. After detaining him, it became clear that the boy - whose age was not released - suffered from a mental illness.

Further questioning revealed that the boy's relatives forced him to walk towards the settlement after threatening him at gunpoint. The boy said that his family wanted IDF soldiers to shoot him as he tried to 'infiltrate' Israeli territory.

IDF searched the area in order to confirm the boy's claims and located four family members as they were attempting to flee the area.

The events took place after the Israeli government filed a complaint with the United Nations Security Council over the continuing rocket attacks from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip into Israeli soil. Since the beginning of 2010, over 200 Grad missiles, Kassam rockets and mortar shells have been fired from the Gaza Strip.

Sad, but pretty typical of Israel's enemies. :bah:

bizarre story about the boy - glad he didn't get shot. Reminds me of stories we sometimes hear of retarded Arab women who get coerced in to donning a bomb belt and blowing themselves up for Muhammed. Q. In such a male-dominated society, can an Arab woman becomes a martyr? ...and if so, does she wind up in Muslim heaven with 72 young male virgins servicing her carnal needs?

The child suicide bomber is as much a victim of a wicked crime as are the innocent civilians who are killed or maimed by the explosion. Children do not have the malicious intent required to cause the everlasting sorrow to hundreds of people involved, they have only been brainwashed that Israel is wicked and that they will be regarded as great heroes.

Often the families are forced by the great, brave Palestinian elite to send their children to an early grave, on the one hand telling them if they don't. then they'll all go to and see Allah prematurely and on the other telling them what honor this will bring, plus maybe $50!!

The children are victims of the most heinous human right violation, the premeditated murder of ones own children.

The incitement and recruitment of Palestinian children to become suicide bombers is grossly illegal, it is nothing but state sponsored mass infanticide and frankly, the practice is a form of societal suicide completely unprecedented in recorded human history.

It seldom gets covered in the manner it should and where are all the Hamas apologists when these things occur?

The family and Hamas-operatives were building him into a martyr to be used in the PR war.

Shepherd killed, 3 injured in Northern Gaza.

the Israeli army fired at four Palestinian farmers and shepherds in the northern part of the Gaza Strip on Thursday, killing one and wounding three, local sources reported.

roops opened fire on a number of Palestinians, leaving four of them wounded. After being brought to the hospital, 22-year old Salamah Abu Hashish succumbed to his wounds. He had been shot in the back by Israeli troops stationed at the border.

Another of the victims was a 14-year old boy who was critically injured when he was shot in the head while collecting rubble near where Abu Hashish was tending his sheep.

Abu Hashish is the 13th Palestinian to be killed in the border area since November, according to local medics.

Many Palestinians, including women and children, search through the debris at the sites of the former Israeli settlements in Gaza. The scavengers sell the materials they find, as a meager source of income in the midst of the Israel-imposed siege on the coastal enclave.

In the border area, declared by Israel to be a "restricted" zone, troops often shoot at the rubble collectors.

The all-out land, air and sea blockade has been depriving the Gazan population of food, fuel and other necessities since mid-June 2007.

Were these the shepherds that watch their flock by night all seated on the ground?

This propaganda site is so well known, so I don't bother with it.

Quote me a more reliable source.

"Err excuse me General, but we've noticed some shepherds watching their flock by night all seated on the ground.........permission to scramble the fighters and launch the missiles sir?

Give me a break!

There is nothing on that site but half-truths, misinformation and downright fibs. How about a coming up with a reputable source?

On Tuesday, following Israel's overnight airstrikes, Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth (Ynet) reported that a Gaza-fired rocket landed near a kindergarten in a kibbutz near Ashkelon, just north of the boundary with Gaza. A 14-year-old Israeli girl was lightly injured, Ynet reported ("Qassam explodes near kindergarten," 21 December 2010).

Doesn't really matter does it? There is an endless string of he said, she said. I didn't fire first, they did.

In an article following al-Bardawil's death, the right-wing Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post quoted Israeli military sources who refuted the Ma'an report. The Israeli military said that it "does not recognize the event" and claimed it had nothing to do with the death of the Palestinian boy.

The Israeli's do not recognize the event. What the He11 does that matter?(rhetorical)

I guess all you have to work with is the actual death toll. Since March 10, 103 Palestinians have been shot by the IDF. Since nobody recongizes those events, it must not have happened.

On 18 March, Thai national Manee Singmueangphon was killed by a Palestinian Qassam rocket launched at a greenhouse in Netiv Haasara. Both Ansar al Sunna, an Islamist group affiliated with al-Qaeda, and al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, claimed responsibility for the attack.

On 30 July, a Hamas Grad missile hit a residential neighborhood in the heart of the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon. No one was physically injured, but eight people suffered from shock and surrounding apartment buildings sustained damage.

On 2 August, Hamas militants in Egypt fired seven Iranian-made Grad missiles at the resort city of Eilat in the extreme south of Israel. Overshot missiles hit the Jordanian city of Aqaba, killing one person and wounding several.

On 20 October, an accidental explosion occurred at a Hamas Qassam rocket training site in the densely crowded Tel As-Sultan neighborhood of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Thirteen people were injured by flying shrapnel, including five children and three women.[2]

Thank you for joining TVF and sharing that chunk of wisdom.

Hamas can fool some people too. It fools many westerners into thinking it is a legitimate government when in fact it is not and is an organization plotting the overthrow of Fatah and another war with Israel. Bet you didn't know that Hamas was supposed to be in a power sharing agreement with Fatah, but Hamas threw Fatah out of Gaza. All of the recent attacks are intended to make Fatah look bad and sabotage the peace negotiations between Fatah and Israel.

I am getting really sick of this Israeli-Palestinian conflict thing. These two sides have dozens of years (and various help from many intermediary parties)to make some kind of peace but virtually nothing has been achieved with regards to a permanent or at least, satisfactory-for-long-term solution.

I am sick of this conflict making news all the time ; in Africa, many countries are plagued by worse stuff ; famine, civil war and various atrocities but we hardly hear about all that and when we do, it is only a few sentences every now and then. But the Israeli-Palestinian thing is always in the headlines.

Maybe you do not hear about Africa, but I do. The difference between the middle east and africa is that foreign intermediaries are participants in the mideast peace process and are there at the invitation of both sides. In Africa, the foreigners have been told to stay away unless they are there to give money with no strings attached. You do realize that Egypt is in Africa right? So is Libya,Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, etc.

I agree children should not be taught to hate it is a pity that Israel can not take some of your advice.

Well, can you cite some examples where the hatred is taught? I do not dispute that hatred is learned behaviour and when children are exposed to it, they pick it up. However, the arab countries make hatred a part of the curriculum and teach hate from the moment a child pops out of a womb.

Center for Religious Freedom, part of Freedom House, a nonprofit group in Washington that seeks to encourage democracy released this study; A first-grade student is taught that “Every religion other than Islam is false”; the teacher instructed to “Give examples of false religions, like Judaism, Christianity, paganism, etc.” Fifth graders learn “It is forbidden for a Muslim to be a loyal friend to someone who does not believe in God and his prophet, or someone who fights the religion ofIslam.”

The report’s authors, who worked with the Institute for Gulf Affairs, a research group based in Washington that focuses on the Middle East, obtained 12 history and religion textbooks from parents of Saudi schoolchildren, and translated the texts. The results, they say, outline a systematic theme of “hatred toward ‘unbelievers,’ ” mainly Christians, Jews, Hindus and atheists, but also Shiites and other Muslims who do not ascribe to the country’s orthodox Wahhabi teaching of Islam.

it's not much different in Syria or Egypt. But let's look at the textbooks used in the PA

This is from textbook produced by the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Education titled "Islamic Culture," intended for students in the 11th grade, shows a return to incitement for Jihad and martyrdom

Christian Missionary Activities (Page 252): "Missionaries are one of the Western institutions used for intellectual invasion of the Muslim world. They tried to get the Muslims out of Islam by weakening the faith in their hearts and accepting the Western way of life. Outwardly they call for adopting the faith of Jesus, but in reality they try to facilitate the Western intellectual invasion of the Islamic countries. The missionary organizations throughout the Islamic world tried to weaken the faith in the hearts of the Muslims, to spread secular ideas to replace Islamic ideology and to pave the way for the occupation of Islamic countries and strengthening Imperialism in them…

The grade 1 texts feature stories on evil jews and non believers. According to these texts, buddhists are primitive apes.

Wikipedia has a nice inventory of examples.

Do Israeli textbooks for children teach this. No.

Same here. It's like in America 120 years ago and more. Where they stole land from and murdered the Native Americans and hated them because they fought back. There is no dishonour in fighting back by any means necessary, for your home land against foreign invaders.

That being said the family that sent the retarded boy to the gate should have been shot too.
