Furniture Shop Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I am in Pattaya and struggling to find a dining table that fits our needs and price bracket. I was wondering if there was a selection of independent shops in Bangkok that other members could recommend that would offer a greater choice? Looked in all the usual chain suspects in Pattaya and the independents along Thapprasit road.

Currently looking at having either a teak or a marble/granite table made but the price for the table alone is coming out at around 45k baht. It is maybe that this is the price I will have to pay for a 2.2 x 1.2 meter very solid table but seems high to me. Comments welcome?

Would take a day/overnight to look around Bangkok if board members can come up with some useful suggestions. Any detailed addresses and or web sites/phone numbers would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm going to move this over to the Bangkok Forum. I'm also trying to find a good dining table, and I live outside Pattaya. One recommendation has been to visit Chatchuchak market. My builder says there are some good choices there.

Also, I heard about a place where there are lots of furniture builders in Bangkok. Can't remember the place, but I will do a search and report back here when I find it.

Well your builder is in the right area, but I would JJ market a wide berth,

post number 8 on this link is where to go in BKK,

the link above refers to the area you mention.

that's it! Bang Po. I've heard there is tons of stuff there, in terms of furniture.

Also, wifey tells me our builder is referring to some place that is outside of Chatchuchak market...not inside the main area...but near. Still don't know exactly where it is, other than nearby. He's a furniture builder from near Chiang Mai and says the stuff there is shipped directly from CM. I've not been yet, but plan to in mid-January or so...

Most of the quality wooden furniture you see piled up in outdoor shops is actually made by convicts in the Thai prison system . Somebody is making a huge profit out of it. Most of its made in workshops in the Klong Prem facility.

Best bet would be to go to Nakom Pathom outside BKK with a 'thai buyer'. Dont buy it yourself .Get a thai to knock the price down(thai price). Stay away from Chatuchak. Absolute rip off.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Anybody have a view on the price I mentioned whether it is on the high side or is that what I am going to have to pay?

Also are there not any good independent stores similar to Decorum in Pattaya - but not as expensive! IE good range of traditional and modern designs as you wouod see in say a Heals or John Lewis in the UK?
