Lamp,

The URL you posted is actually the local IP address <http://10.0.0.99/> assigned by your router to whatever PC is hosting the web cam site. You need to give us the public IP address....

I don't know. How do I get that. I can view it through Thai Visa on the com I set it up on but on the others there are only stills

I need to know a little more about how your web cam is set up.

Is it designed to do streaming video (a live-motion view) or does it upload stills to a web page now and then?

If the former, what port does it use to stream the video?

If the latter, where is the web page hosted? On one of your PC's or on a server someplace else?

Edit: What software are you using for the web cam?

Live streaming. The guy reckons he's got it now.

No he hasn't....he's says it's the right IP, but he doesn't speak English.

It is the right address. On the option just click java

Can't be. You gave us: http://10.0.0.99/

That's a private IP address only used by the computers on your local network.

You need to give us the public IP address which is the one assigned to your modem/router by Ipstar (you do use Ipstar, right), or whatever ISP you're using.

Private IP Addresses

Lappshade;

Have you connected to webcam directly to the router, or to a PC ?

What is the brand and model of the router, If its connected to a PC, you will need to set up a web server and streaming software.

There is some good stuff you can download for free, if you have a prob call me, I think you have my number.

I can see on all my computors. If it's not working your end, I'll wait until nxt week.

It's a wireless web cam anyway.

The reason you can see it is that the IP address you are using is private to your network only. You get a single, public, IP address from your ISP. Then your router assigns private addresses to all the devices (computers) on your local area network (LAN). The router then does the job of translating between the single public IP address and the multiple private IP addresses. No one outside of your LAN can see your private IP addresses.

If you want the outside world to be able to see a private IP address then you need to tell your router to map a port on the public IP address to a specific port on a specific private IP address. Your router has a table that allows you to do this.

But, since we don't have the details on how your web cam is set up, we can't give you guidance on how to do this.

Not wishing to teach anyone to suck eggs, but, in other words:

-It is the router (and it's ip we should be hitting)

The router will then allocate our request to 10.0.0.99 if it is set-up correctly (there is a set-up program usually called from an ip address (check your manual)

-You need also to ensure your firewall will allow this communication. You are probably set up to allow communication on particular ports(21 , 80 whatever) and for a sequence of ip numbers like e.g.. 192.xxx.xxx.001 to 192.xxx.xxx.250. The port you use must be open and the ip number you use must either fall in the sequence already allowed or be specifically named as OK.

Thomas. Lampshade won't have a clue what you are talking about (neither do I to be honest). Perhaps you could write it in Thai and then he could print it out and give it to his installer. :o

I went though this with Lampshade via PM earlier today. We got to the point where he needed the router's password....

Better for me to draw it.

But it appears unecessary - help is at hand - despite the fact Lampy appears to practice the ultimate in security software - naimly, the forgotten password.

My Thai writing skills arent great, but maybe this might help:

Not sure why that didnt paste in Thai?

I typed it in word and copied and pasted. Does someone know the reason?

My Thai writing skills arent great, but maybe this might help:

seem you used translator program..after read it doesnt make sense in some sentence .. so i will try to adjust from all u copy-paste but its still hard for me, coz it's techical term

Ihavn't even had a password to forget. The factory installation says you don't need a password for forst use, but some wise guy in the factory seems to have put one in.

There should be a small reset button on the router, probably one of those pinhole things on the back.

What brand/model is the router?

this thread reminds me of a british tv sitcom

keep it up lads

brilliant stuff.

It's a D-Link. I discussed resetting with Lampy, but then he would have to reconfigure his entire LAN. Not sure he wants to go through that....

The default user name and password are both "admin" on my D-Link. Assume it's the same on his. He tried those and they didn't work. I believe the user name is fixed at "admin", so it looks like someone, at some point, has changed the password. Always a good idea. But, always a good idea to keep a note of it, somewhere safe and secure....

let the women have a go.

get the washer up and the cleaner on it.

they'll have it sorted in a jiffy.
