Interesting Community And Railway Relic

Featured Replies

I took a little stroll today, and found myself heading West away from Chatuchak on Phahon Yotin when I spotted through the railings an unusual vehicle on rails rotting quietly in some undergrowth:

It seems to be an armoured rail car with the police arms and the words กองตำรวจรถไฟ (gaawngM dtamM ruaatL rohtH faiM) both on the arms and stenciled, faintly, above them.

ตำรวจ and รถไฟ are easy enough - 'police train' and กอง can mean 'troop, force company etc.' So I'm thinking it's the railway police... a little research came up with the modern version of the badge at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ianfuller/3811683315/

Next to it was a wood shop and several 'buildings' (homes?) fashioned from railway stock:

The sign reads: หมู่บาน ตำรวจรักรถไฟ ( muuL baanM dtamM ruaatL rakH rohtH faiM ) or, my best guess, 'Neighbourhood of police who love trains' or perhaps they're not police but love the police train...?

There is also Thailand's shortest railway complete with rolling stock:

Anyway, thought it might appeal to the railway history buffs out there...

I'll post the photos soon on Panoramio
