Tonsillitis

Featured Replies

My better half suffers badly with Tonsillitis, can anyone recommend a good Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist in Bangkok.

I seem to remember reading a thread a while back when a member asked a simular question and a member came back with the name of a Dr who was trained both here in Thailand and also at 2 Univerities in the USA.. I have tried searching the forum but I cannot find the thread.

Any recommended Dr names and location will be much appreciated.

Brian

I've had excellent experiences with Dr. Pasakorn Thavornant at the BNH E-N-T clinic.

In addition to performing surgery to correct a deviated septum -- his bedside manner is commendable -- he was successful at treating a stubborn recurring ear infection that stumped three doctors at the Bangkok Hospital-Pattaya E-N-T clinic.

He is able to "think outside the box," so to speak. I expressed concerns about the consecutive courses of antibiotics I had taken as prescribed by the BH-P doctors (not only digestive problems as the "good" intestinal bacteria were destroyed, but also my general concern of being over-exposed to excessive antibiotics.) He determined that the alkalinity of my ear canal might be a cause of the repeating infections. He instructed me how to irrigate the ear canal with vinegar (to increase the acidity) and prescribed a topical antibiotic that would not affect my digestive system, as the other antibiotics had. I was quite pleased with his alternative treatment, and better yet: it worked!

Watch this guy Assistant Songklot Aeumjaturapat. He is also stationed at BKK hospital. My brother used to see him at BKK hospital (I guess either Sat or Sun) and this guy knew that my brother had unlimited healthcare coverage provided by his employer. He made several attempts to talk my brother to undergo some unnecessary surgery. My brother sought at least two more opinions from doctor at Bumrungrad and Phayathai hospital, they agreed it was not necessary. He made some kind of false advice that my brother would get worse without surgery if he moved back to the states which was not true.

Be careful!

My experience with him was quite the opposite. I brought a Cambodian colleague, who had been advised by several doctors in Cambodia that she needed surgery, to see him. He said surgery was unnecessary and advised conservative treatment which resolved the problem.

I don't know the specifics of your brother's situation, but certainly it is not the case that this doctor habitually recommends unnecessary surgery.
