There is no minimum wage to be granted a work permit.

Where the minimum pay is involved is where you are applying for extension of stay based on employment, which have different criteria for different nationalities, therefore this is an immigration dept requirement rather than a labour office requirement.

(Extension of stay is where you do not have to leave the country every 3 months on a visa run)

Further the minimums stated are not amounts a company has to pay you, many people are on extension of stay and on the books for the amount stated but are getting a paidn a lot less

^but presumably if the company is overdeclaring your salary in order to get the Extension of Stay for Employment then they are also paying income tax and NI based on the inflated amount.

That 'extra' will likely come from your salary.

Of course... , but it also works the other way as well, people on good or very good salaries are on the books for minimum amount for their salaries (generally just over) and only pay the tax on the amount declared for their WP, which opens up various "tax advantages"..;)

The best position to be in I agree, although it does leave you paying less tax than is required to apply for PR (so I'm told ;)) but in the case of a lower paid job is it really worth taking the job if you are getting hit harder for tax just to be able to work?

What happens the guys are down on the books not at the bare minimum to get the extension of stay for their nationality, but at a "realistic" amount usually around THB 80,000/m in BKK which I understand is the minimum for PR as well, so believe, therefore they are covered on that front as well should they decide to go that route at some point

Some people seem to be that desperate to live/work in Thailand, they seem to be prepared to put up up with anything...it has never made sense to me
