Thai Motorcycle License In Uk

Featured Replies

Last year after doing the test I obtained my Thai motorcycle license here in Thailand.

Soon I will be going back to the UK, and I am wondering if I can legally drive motor bikes now in the UK? I do not have and have never had a UK motorbike license; I only have a standard car driving license in the UK.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

:)

Yes, if you have a five year drivings license .

Can not on a temporary one year licence.

To be 100% get a International driving permit from Department of Land Transportation.

The department of Land transportation's head office is based in the Chachutjak district of Bangkok, opposite the well know weekend market.

Interesting. Last summer when I was visiting in Canada, I called the local licensing office and asked about transferring my Thai motorbike licence into a provincial one there. They asked where my licence was from, and when I said, "Thailand," all I got in response was a hearty laugh.

Maybe they accept some countries' licensing, but definitely not Thailand's.

This was Canada, though, and not UK.

Thanks for the responses guys, I still have the one year temporary license. They told me I have to come back after one year and switch for a proper one.

I won't bother riding in UK this year, I will stick to 4 wheels. After I have my 5 year card I will give it a try, I will be nervous if I get pulled over :)

I think most countries have rules that indicate anyone staying longer than three months must have a local licence to drive legally. This also applies to the International Driving Permit, which is valid for no longer than three (6?) months in any one stay.

I think you'll find she can for 6 months or maybe a year from when entering the UK and after that she would have to take a UK test.

Look on the DVLA . uk web site it has info on who can and what etc.:)

Look on the DVLA .uk web site, they are very strict about motorcycle's you should be able to get info there.:)

Its not so much the licence...its very doubtfull you would get an insurance company to cover you...in the unlikely event they would it would be at an extorinate premium.....International Permit is worth getting and you stand a better chance.
