Dressing When Depressed

Featured Replies

Maybe it's SAD. Maybe it's clinical. Maybe you're in a breakup. Or maybe you just have the blues. Whatever the reason, it's better to wear clothes (trust me).

I actually have clothes set aside for when the Black Dog's stalking. I hope most of you don't, but let me tell you, clothes are the last thing you want to think about when you're down. And yet, being in something crummy or dirty or shleppy can make you feel even worse. And while it can't work miracles, having something to slip into can provide a little comfort.

Basically, there are two real options: wallowing and rallying. Let's say you just want to wallow — whether that means holing up in bed or vegging out on the couch with a miniseries and a mug of tea (ideally prepared by someone else.) For this line, obviously, you want the coziest, snuggliest, softest clothes imaginable. This is the one time when "loungewear" really makes sense to me, because it can be depressing to stay in PJs — but you don't want real clothes. Think a cozy cardigan and some soft and lovely yoga pants, and of course slippers. Bra — and Snuggie — both optional.

I am of the rally type myself, if I am feeling down, I put on some loud music, some nice clothes and dance around. Even if its by myself. As the article says, "fake it till you make it". If I look good, I feel better.

How about you? Wallow or rally?

I'm a wallower.

Usually I am a happy, laughy person. But when I get down, I like to have a nice cry, a nice bath and put on my "wallowing jammies" (of which I have numerous pairs), pour myself a strong drink and watch crap on the TV.

I also put on loud music and dance around, but in my wallowing jammies...!!! The other night i did just that, and felt good afterwards.

I don't see the point in getting all dolled up if I am down. I keep that for when I am happy.

But when I am wallowing (love that word) I also shave my legs, manicure, pedicure, facial etc. Me time. Whilst screaming at the World!!

I'm a wallower. But really shouldn't be, as when I do make the effort to get off the sofa and dressed (I'm not always depressed, but I work from home a lot), I always feel loads better. The solution given is great - have nice wallowing clothes. I feel an Ebay search for a velvet smoking jacket coming on...

it's up to what making me depressed.. I can be both... sometimes just ly down alone in bed, in quiet and dark room, turning off all connections.

I will make some peaceful sleep, may be cry also. But usually I feel a lot better after one sleep.

Or sometimes I will go to swim, swimming can always help me freshen up and help clearing my head.

Shopping used to help me getting better, but I should quit using this way, too expensive!:)

When I am depressed I think of SBK and Migsy getting all dressed up in their sunday best and partying to dawn on some island in the south and dancing to the theme from FAME.

Then I wake up and realize it's really not that bad :whistling:

OMG, the theme from Fame??? Puleeze!

<deleted>, i sound like Dorothy...

I have a lounge that goes right thru to the kitchen thru the hall bypassing the bathroom - I bop the whole thing at least twice a week!!! In my jammies or otherwise - i love music...

Imagine living in a hole without music... Even music that even your mother would be embarrassed about...

And, you can pretend to be the best dancer in the world. even if, in real life, you have two left feet..

Who cares? As long as you are getting it down...and enjoying yourself.

I did the Twist the other night and f-up my left leg!! Linmping. Who cares?? Not me. Lasted 24 hours.

Good dancing, my lady friends -

If this doesn't make you laugh and think life is good then i don't know what..

Off i go...

When, in my jammies, I also think that i can be a ballerina!!

This is not through alcohol abuse. So I jetty around pointing my toes, etc. Just depends on the music. As long i am on my own. For gods sake, can u imagine a man putting up with the wicked cat person... in a tutu?

Careful ladies, p-cat is in the middle of one of those post to herself moods again_while depressed apparently :)

You gotta love Patsy lol.

I agree, I love patsycat and totally get the rambling repeated posts. I tend to do that when home alone, talking away to myself. It was most embarrassing once when I was having a good old rant about something to turn around and find my neighbor standing in my back door looking at me like "wth is she talking to?"

When I am depressed I think of SBK and Migsy getting all dressed up in their sunday best .......dancing to the theme from .....

you have already seen a pic of my sunday best

now, you can listen to my theme music....

and of course this, amongst a few others:
