Singer Offers Provocative Painting Exhibition

A sarcastic acrylic painting exhibition is on display now in Bangkok, taking spectators to a world of new aspects about sex and politics.

Singer 'Palm' Priyawit Ninjunlaka from the band Instinct has showcased his 20 fabulous paintings, in a bid to provide the general public with a new outlook regarding sex and politics.

Palm said his artistic work represents the negative side of sex, influenced by society and his real-life experiences.

He added that the paintings also offer viewers entertainment and fun.

All paintings are said to be straightforward, easy to understand, but, at the same time, amusing and even hilarious.

The show is now hosted at Gossip Gallery at the Silom Galleria Building, with free admission until February 28.

Jaturon warns govt not to comply with PAD’s demands

BANGKOK, 27 January 2011 (NNT) – Former Acting Thai Rak Thai Leader Jaturon Chaisaeng has warned that the government should not heed the demands proposed by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) regarding the controversy between Thailand and Cambodia.

Mr Jaturon, also a former deputy prime minister, stated that no governments should accept the proposed demands because they would only exacerbate the mutual relationships between Thailand and its neighboring country, or might cause more clashes between troops of both sides.

The PAD is demanding that the government should withdraw Thailand from the World Heritage Committee, revoke the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Cambodia and expel Cambodians from the Thai territory.

The former deputy prime minister stressed that the 2000 MOU should not be scrapped, and the government should not withdraw Thailand from the World Heritage Committee; otherwise, Thailand would have no chances to explain with the world issues concerning the Preah Vihear dispute.

As for the demand to drive Cambodians away from Thai soil, Mr Jaturon suggested that the government should resort to the 2000 MOU instead of using military forces following the proposals of the PAD group.

The former party leader then cautioned the government that it should be very thorough in solving problems, explain reasons to people for better understanding and respect their rights to gather or express opinions without using any violent measures.

Red-shirt leaders to circulate open letter to judges nationwide

By The Nation

The red-shirt leaders, including those seven held in remand, plan to circulate an open letter calling the attention of some 1,500 judges nationwide to their plight, Thida Thawornseth said on Thursday.

Thida, whose husband Weng Tojirakarn is in remand cell, said the letter would make the judges aware of the legal predicament faced by the red shirts.

"The open letter will outline grievances in connection with the legal proceedings, including the arrest, the charge for terrorism and the denial of bail applications," she said.

Rally organiser Worawut Wichaidit said the red shirts will hold their next rally on February 13 to demand for justice.

The rally activities include a visit to Bangkok Remand Prison, in a gesture of support for detained red shirts, and a march from the prison to Democracy Monument on Rajdamnoen Avenue.
