Government and Army remain strong allies despite coup rumor

BANGKOK, 30 January 2011 (NNT)-Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has confirmed the Royal Thai Army and the government are on good terms with each other while dismissing rumors there will be a military coup.

Mr. Abhisit said whoever started the rumor has the intentions to cause disruption to Thai politics, citing that the next election will be taking place this year. However, he said if there were an attempt to turn the government against the military, it would not succeed because the government and the Royal Thai Army have been on the same path and standing side by side through thick and thin.

He added that a military coup will not bring prosperity to Thailand, considering the fact that the government had spend the past two years fixing problems that occurred as result of a coup.

It would be more newsworthy if we had a week where there *wasn't* a coup rumour. Especially one circulated by Mr Credibility (Jatuporn).

I don't know why the papers bother reporting this rubbish.

Maybe it has something with the fact that Thailand has experienced 18 coups in the past 80 years.

So starting a coup rumour once a week, they are probably going to be right once every 230 weeks.

But only 1 coup in the last 19 years, could it possibly be, that things are getting better ? I'm sure all farang guests in Thailand, with families and homes and (sometimes) businesses here, would hope so. B)

PM: Coup speculation just rumors

BANGKOK, 30 January 2011 (NNT) - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has said speculation that another coup is in the offing is just a rumor, adding that the government and the military understand each other.

According to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva , reports by unidentified sources of another coup are just rumors, reasoning that at present all sides wish to see the country move forwards . Besides, a general election will be held this year; so there is no reason why anyone should stage a coup, the move which will only drag the country backwards.

He further said anyone trying to pitch the government against the Army in the hope that it would lead to another coup will come up empty-handed , given both sides understand each other and have been working hand in hand for the sake of the country.

The premier also said he could not figure out how a coup, if there were one, would do the country any good, given the damaging problems brought on by the previous coup staged by the Army five years ago has taken the government over two years to solve.

Does anyone see the contradiction in these two paragraphs?

So the government is working hand in hand with exactly these army people who brought all that damaging problems to the country?
