rbrb Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Having followed the appalling human tragedy with the ongoing disaster on the gulf coast of the States, would be interesting to know what Americans think of the events. Many observers see: 1 gross incompetence. 2. inhuman neglect of mainly black and poor people. The final indignity is learning that the likes of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have offered or are giving aid. A bit like setting up a charity fund to benefit Bill Gates.... so, whats wrong with America???

barryofthailand Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Nothing is wrong with America. Like most countries nothing is perfect. 80% of the people that lived in the affected area evacuated before the hurricane hit. 20% of the people are on public aid and probably idn't have the funds to evacuate. The city of New Orleans is below sea leval and people are used to water coming in and then receding. This time the water did not recede. This is a tragedy, and a learning experience for the American Government. Barry
TRIPxCORE Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 As an American, I wonder how the people that lived in that area could refuse to evacuate the area as they were warned way ahead of time that this whole episode was going to be devastating. I can totally understand not wanting to leave your home and your things but when something that bad and vicious is barreling down towards you, you really have no choice. It's a sad situation.
