The government should go. For no other reason than after the first yellow shirt ordeal and the red shirt ordeals, they have learned nothing.

This rally should have been stopped when it started.

While it was peaceful and not threatening, no. It was still legal.

It has now gone past that and should be stopped ASAP.

Line in the sand needs to be drawn sooner rather than later.

And yes,

let the leaders debate the issues in public vs Abhisit and his team

3-4 talking heads vs 3-4 talking heads, should be fare.

Police seek special security law enforcement to deal with protesters

BANGKOK, Feb 7 – Thai Police Chief Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree on Monday said he will ask the Cabinet on Tuesday to enforce the Internal Security Act (ISA) in the Government House and Parliament compounds to prevent intrusion of 'Yellow Shirt' demonstrators and to maintain order.

As supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD)--the Yellow Shirts--encamped at Government House for several weeks had earlier announced their intention to intensify their protest, top police officers resolved that the ISA enforcement at the two key sites was necessary for tighter security and maintain order, the national police chief explained.

Gen Wichean spoke after he and Metropolitan Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, Pol Maj Gen Wichai Sangprapai, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1 and other senior police officers met with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban at 10am to plan security measures for dealing with the protesters.

The police sought Mr Suthep’s advice regarding special law enforcement before proposing it for Cabinet approval on Tuesday.

Asked whether or not the police will retake the areas immediately if the cabinet imposes the ISA as requested, the police chief said that the police will take action immediately once the Cabinet approves the proposed plan but will apply no harsh approach in regaining the protest sites.

Previously, the police tried to negotiate with the PAD leaders several times about their protest but to no avail, Gen Wichean said.

In a related development, Pol Lt-Gen Chakthip and Metro police deputy chief Pol Maj Gen Kririn Inkaew on Monday negotiated with key PAD leader Maj Gen Chamlong Srimuang regarding the matter but Gen Chamlong insisted that the ISA imposition could not pressure the protesters to end their demonstration.

The 'Yellow Shirt' People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) have staged their demonstration at Makkhawan Bridge on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue since Jan 25. They demanded the government withdraw from the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, scrap a memorandum of understanding signed with Cambodia in 2000, and evict Cambodians from disputed border areas. Simply amazing. They don't need an Internal Security Act to enforce the law. If only the BIB would do their frickin' jobs to begin with and start arresting and removing these parasites, all these special acts, which serve zero purpose, would not be needed. The other paper is reporting that Chamlong has refused a "police request" to open the roads. Real police never request anything, you either move on or you're in handcuffs and escorted off. Some water cannons and non-lethal methods of dispersion is all they need at this point. Do your job.
